Bag to take to London on sightseeing and shopping trip

We are travelling by train and plan on buy a fair few things while there. I really don't want to take a big rucksack but realistically what would be the best kind of bag to take?

Speaking from personal experience, a small flat crossbody bag for valuables, coupled with a normal sized backpack for shopping and snacks. Pickpockets are everywhere so your good stuff needs to be only accessible by yourself and it is a really good idea to keep both hands free and your wits about you. So to answer your question, a two bag combo is imo the best. Enjoy your trip!

I usually take a Longchamp and a small crossbody bag if just for one night.

What about a small bag on wheels? That way you can pull it along rather than having to carry everything around on your back.

A total pain in the arse unless you can drop it straight to the hotel though.

I agree with the backpack/cross body, waist belt bag combo. Cannot be beaten if carrying things around all day. The weight is better distributed in a backpack and often you can forget it's there.

Valuables in the cross body/waist belt, all other stuff in the backpack. It doesn't have to be huge or like an outdoor hiking thing, as long as it's a bit squashy with some give in it, you'd be amazed how much you can shove in there.

We are doing a day trip only, sorry, should have made that clear.

This screams tourist if you are here for the day.

Be prepared to be the enemy of commuters with that!

A small cross body that fits your phone and other valuables will be fine. It's just London.

Cross body bag. A supermarket bag if you intend on shopping but you can buy one if you need to.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie @JorisBonson @TakeMe2Insanity
The small bag I'm referring to is a back back- with the option to pull out a handle and wheel it if it gets too heavy. Its not a massive, travel suitcase! In 20yrs living between zone 1-2, I've never had an issue using it on a tube/bus etc.

@CC4712 do you have a link please or a picture?

Cross body and backpack.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 16/06/2023 19:31

I would use a lightweight cross body with a Le Pliage folded up inside until needed. Then transfer the cross body into it when I started shopping.
