Foot makeover?

User17753 · 14/06/2023 22:13

I have really horrible feet (one dry cracked heel that is always covered in sort of white/grey skin) and 4 fungal toe nails (2 on each foot).

To try and improve my feet I do the footner masks every now and again, I use cracked heel repair cream when it gets bad, and I have tried most fungal nail treatments to no avail (including laser treatment which was £££!). I'm still left with a crusty heel and manky toes.

I cut and paint my own toenails which helps a bit, but frankly my feet look shit. Everyone I know seems to get gel nail pedicures but I assume I can't do this because of the fungus. Is there some kind of professional who can sort my feet out so they look nicer? Podiatrists seem too medical so I'm a bit stumped! I'd just love to wear sandals in summer.

Thanks to anyone who can help at all!

Have you ever tried medication from the doctor for the fungal infection? Quite hard to get them to agree to prescribing it from what I gather but I have had clients achieve fantastic results with them within weeks.

As far as the hard skin is concerned I would recommend a podiatrist initially and then a homecare routine of using a foot file a few times a week after showering followed by a good thick cream (flexitol is really good!)

Can you find a chiropodist near you? That would be my first port of call

Thanks fluffy! I will call the GP tomorrow. I've had these fungal toenails since uni and I'm now in my 40s so I'd love to actually get rid.

Foot file sounds good! Will have to ask podiatrist which bits I can do as I also have eczema on my feet which gets sore if I rub at it.

Find a place which does a medical pedicure to sort your feet out, you can bring your own polish but they'll sort the hard skin.

Diabetes foot cream is really good for civilians. It does everything.

Definitely see your GP. I had tablets prescribed by the Dr and had to take them for about a year I think, but it worked. You have to make sure you take them every day though as they are expensive so the GP will want to ensure you will follow through with the treatment.

Are you near anywhere that does a medical pedicure? I’d look to see if eg a Margaret Dabbs clinic is near you and book in. I think they can also do a false nail to cover any damaged/fungal nails.

Medical pedicure sounds like exactly what I want!!! Have just googled Margaret Dabbs and there's one 20 mins away! Thanks so much to all of you, really helpful!

Have booked in for 2 weeks time and I'm even having shellac on my toes! I feel like this has saved my summer, thanks so much wise women of Mumsnet! 🙌
