I know this will have been discussed so many times but couldn't find a good thread.

Can we talk beachwear please?

I've got swimsuits, tankinis, bikinis even board shorts. I've not been abroad for four years. I'm 5ft 3 size 12 and definitely not rocking a six pack.

What do you prefer to wear?

If you've found this page in search of swimwear that has been tried and tested by fellow Mumsnet users, you might find our guide to the best swimsuits for women useful. Hope this helps! MNHQ

I'm on holiday atm and it is mostly bikinis, many with mismatched tops & bottoms. Some of the younger girls are wearing bigger tops with ruffles. A few swimsuits, but no swim dresses, swim leggings or burkinis. Fairly glam cover ups for lunch. All shapes and sizes having a good time

I’m just not a bikini person, I don’t care what anyone says about body shapes and sizes, I’m feel half naked in one! I wore the loose fit shorts with a cropped top sports bra last year but swam in a proper swimsuit (but then I tend to get in the pool and swim for exercise rather than pottering around) https://www.tikiboo.co.uk/collections/shorts

I've been looking at the high waisted bikini bottoms on Cupshe.com. the sizing is in S/M/L so no idea how that translates to 10/12/14 etc. Has anyone ordered from there?

This has really given me food for thought. I've not been on holiday abroad for 12 years and I'm 55 and 16 top and 14 post hysterectomy with lovely pouchy abdomen!!

I probably will still wear an all in one though because idk why it didn't occur to me to get a bikini. And just bought a couple of swimsuits. Plus I'm going with my older dsis and she can be quite judgy Grin

But pp are right to say about bikinis and continentals so I need to reassess - probably for my next trip 😉

Thank you for all the replies.

I've realised life is short so I will take my bikinis but also my other stuff so I have a choice.

There is some lovely beachwear out there which I've not looked at for a while.

Black bikinis with various top and bottom styles that I juts mix and match now. I like black I think it looks chic. I replace things each year but have around 4 tops and 6 bottoms. Black bikini, gown gold chain and hoops. Very chic.

I have a pale pink bandeau bikini top that I wear with shortie board shorts for paddle boarding and I have just bought a navy bikini as well.

I have a white and an old blue linen shirt for a cover up and massive straw tote bag and hat.

No one cares what I look like except me, and as long as I am comfortable I will wear my bikinis.

Bikini. I'm the same size and shape you describe

You can wear a bikini under clothes to go to the beach. Honestly. No one is looking at you

What nobody? I'm sure some people will notice me. I'm not that bad to look at.

That’s just what people say to make you/themselves feel less self conscious.

Some people will look. I look at people. It doesn’t matter where they are.

😂

I know. I do too.

It is true we shouldn't care though. I'll definitely take my bikinis.

I wore a bikini last year for the first time and honestly didn't feel self conscious. I'm 44 with a wobbly tummy that bloats very easily (especially on hols with bread, wine & snacks!). It was also a game changer for going to the loo. I'm only taking 1 proper swimsuit this year. Ive got 2 bikinis & 1 tankini.
