It's a wedding guest one for a tomboy

I'm attending a wedding in a couple of weeks. Manor House type setting, if relevant. The last wedding I went to was my own and I've just filed for divorce so I'm not a frequent wedding goer. I'm not one to wear dresses, my style falls into the 'alt' category. Dark hair, tattooed etc. I've just gotten back from holiday and I'd bought a fuchsia dress which I didn't think I'd like but I actually did. Question is, is it wedding appropriate and if so, help me with shoes!! Pics attached.
If not, please suggest some nice dresses. I'm 28, 5"4 and a size 12.

Thanks!

what about them? I’m not into girly either and only wear black but I quite like them. Dress is a nice colour, striking with your hair.

@donquixoteslittledonkey I don't know if I dare go for anything as bold as that! I'm so self conscious about the way I look and because this is so far out of my comfort zone, it's really hard to adjust!

Aww. Easier said than believed but you’ve got a great figure and nothing to be self-conscious about. I spent my twenties and thirties looking in the mirror and thinking ‘oh no’ and now I look back and think what was I on? Got to be comfortable though. Do you normally wear black?

TrioofTrumps · 11/06/2023 20:20

I actually don’t think that is particularly wedding appropriate, it’s a bit revealing. I came on to say would you wear a jumpsuit based on your thread title.

FuckParkdean · 11/06/2023 21:41

@donquixoteslittledonkey aw thank you! I do normally wear black/grey/khaki colours.

@TrioofTrumps revealing in terms of cleavage?

TrioofTrumps · 12/06/2023 10:41

It’s a lovely dress and looks good on you, but yes I think too much cleavage for a wedding.

Maddy70 · 12/06/2023 10:42

I would go dressed exactly as in the pic. You look great

DisforDarkChocolate · 12/06/2023 10:46

Many a bride has more cleavage on show than that.

To me a little casual but if you feel comfortable go for it. I'd keep away from sparkly footwear if you're never wear it again. The B&G know you, if they were the sort to expect you to wear something that made you uncomfortable you'd know by now.

FuckParkdean · 12/06/2023 15:09

@Maddy70 thank you!!

@DisforDarkChocolate it's a silk/satin material so has a shine which makes it look a bit more occasion-y than these pics appear. I don't actually know the B&G - they're relatives of my partner and we don't live nearby so I haven't actually met them! Can't imagine they'll give a rats ass what I look like I just want to make a good first impression on everyone and feel comfortable for the day Smile

Hi OP, lovely dress but not wedding appropriate on the cleavage front. I’d say a bride can show all the cleavage she wants!

the colour and length are fab.

we can see one of your children in the background you might want to cover their face?

a jumpsuit would look fab linking back to what you said your style was

Suprima · 12/06/2023 15:17

Not wedding appropriate. I love a slip dress, but it’s too short. It looks a lovely dress- but one to chuck on with sandals as you have done, great for holiday- but not occasion wear.

this would be nice for a wedding- I’d wear with the sandals in your picture and a blue bag.

the top makes it a bit more ‘special’ and the length is smarter. New look have some nice cami dresses. Look for a cowl neckline and something more midi length.

Too much cleavage for a wedding guest.
I think the suggestion of a jumpsuit is good if you don’t normally wear dresses. Maybe something like this?

You'd want something over the shoulders I think so as to respectablize it :) Jacket or cardi. Presumably you just want to go to the wedding, feel ok when you look in the mirror, blend in with the other guests?
But it's a pretty dress and with a jacket or shawl or something I think wouldn't stand out.
Shoes, go for the comfiest ones that look ok - flats in a coordinating shade? The ones up thread are pretty but I can't imagine how bad your feet would feel at the end of the day!!!

NeverThatSerious · 12/06/2023 15:41

It’s absolutely fine for a wedding, and if you feel happy and confident in it, that’s ideal! I’d go bright green with my accessories (so shoes, bag, something for your hair, that stuff!) I think.

Giselletheunicorn · 12/06/2023 15:43

Agree with the others in terms of slightly too much boob on display for a wedding guest. But I have to say, that colour looks amazing on you!

NeverThatSerious · 12/06/2023 15:43

Also yy to some sort of cover up for the ceremony, perhaps a cropped blazer?

WhatADrabCarpet · 12/06/2023 16:59

Flame me but I think it just looks like a strappy shirt dress.

I think you might need a wrap or mini jacket/bolero/thing on your top half.

Actually, it's a bit too revealing if truth be told.

Sunnydays0101 · 12/06/2023 17:54

It’s a lovely dress but more a holiday/casual dress imo. It really isn’t a dress you’d wear to a wedding. Though obviously if you want to wear it, then wear it.
