Home laser hair removal that works?

...just that really. Does such a thing exist!? I have quite thick dark hair and would definitely invest in it if it worked, even if it just reduced hair growth somewhat. Shaving is a PITA and I can't stand waxing as I get really bad ingrown hairs. I'd want to use it on my legs and bikini line. Also...how often do you have to use it and can you/do you need to shave in between. TIA

I’ve got a Phillips Lumea and it definitely works. You need to follow the instructions closely regarding when to do it ( it only works if zapped when the hair is in a growth stage)
I started using it about a year ago and did as instructed. Now I just go back over if I see the odd hair growing but I’d say 98% of hair has gone.

Reluctantadult · 11/06/2023 22:21

The lumea didn't work for me but maybe it will for you.

Whatisithatido · 11/06/2023 22:35

It doesn't work - if you want to invest go to a proper salon and pay for IPL/lazer etc. Most people only need 6 sessions and it could be almost permanent hair loss. Well worth it.

Philips Lumea worked for me

CinnamonJellyBeans · 11/06/2023 23:15

yep, Phillips Lumea. I'm still kicking myself for not buying it years ago. Fantastic results everywhere except toes!

tinkerbellvspredator · 11/06/2023 23:18

Lumea helped a bit for me but not as well as advertised. Instead of waiting 2 weeks between treatments (which seemed to have no effect) I had to do 1 week between, and that did have a good impact on regrowth. But it wasn't permanent at all. I have dark hair and pale skin so should have had a good result.

Another vote for Lumea, and agree you must follow the proper schedule for it to work. I did it properly last year, and only had to shave armpits once a month, even then very little growth, ditto bikini line and nothing noticeable on legs. I stopped over winter because I was too lazy, and barely any leg hair grew over the winter. It has definitely reduced my leg hair very significantly. Armpit and bikini did regrow, bikini def thinner than before. It is, for sure, a slower and more hassle ridden procedure than paying mega bucks for a salon job, but worth it imo.
I do have the ideal combo of light skin and dark hair though, which makes a difference I have read.

Another vote for the Philips Lumea. It's worked really well for me (have only used it on my legs). I have fair skin and very, very thick, dark body hair. I just do a top-up every now and then but a large percentage of the hairs seem to have gone forever. Cost me about £350 but was absolutely worth it.

Phillips Lumea. Amazing gadget if it works for you.

You have to keep using it though. I was more or less hair free after the first 12 months but you need to keep going and do it every so often.

OhBling · 12/06/2023 11:05

Can a child use it? DD has a lot of hair on her leg and is being teased at school. But she's 9!! I am not excited but am researching options if things get any worse next year.

WeightInLine · 14/06/2023 17:31

I am not sure if it is suitable for a child (it stings a bit the first few times you use it) but worth researching, definitely.

I wish I had had it during my teen years - I was always turning down going swimming etc. this would have been better.
