Where do you shop if you’re in your mid 30’s?

I have no idea anymore!
New Look seems too teenager-ish (though they do have some nice items)
H&M just seem mental.
River island, too young.
Love next for kids clothes.

I’ve just ordered some things from Roman as I liked the look of some dresses that were advertised on my instagram 🙈 have I dipped into old lady territory?

New look
shein for cheapy things
h and m
adidas

I def feel too old for river island. I’m 37

Tisfortired · 11/06/2023 22:15

I’m 32 and realised the other day I haven’t bought anything from asos in a really long time - used to be my go to. Now I mainly shop from;

Zara
Uniqlo
Arket
Monki
H&M
Weekday

FindingTheFox · 11/06/2023 22:21

My favourite is Sugarhill Brighton.
I've also got stuff from Hush, Mint Velvet, Fatface, Boden, Brakeburn, H&M, New Look and Sainsbury's.
I mostly buy from Vinted.

polkadotpixie · 11/06/2023 22:32

I'm 39 and mostly buy from Vinted but brands-wise I buy mainly New Look & ASOS

I steer well clear of the teenage stuff but they do really nice bits that aren't too young

Farmageddon · 11/06/2023 22:38

I'm 38, I used to love Oasis and Warehouse back in the day for work and going out clothes, but these days I dress far more casually.

I've recently found some nice stuff in M&S (linen trousers and a knitted hoodie, some basic t shirts and good underwear),

I got a lovely kimono from One Hundred Stars that I can't wait to wear, a nice pair of mom jeans that fit well from River Island, and a cashmere jumper and leather bag from FatFace. So I'm a bit all over the place in terms of where I shop.

Poetry and Wrap London are also good for things like linen basics for summer, although they're expensive and both tends towards a bit boring and beige.

There were some good recommendations on here a while ago of online shops like Forgotten Tribes and EseOEse which both have some nice stuff. Also Oliver Bonas is often recommended.

Basically, it's harder to find everything in one or two places.

Muddygreenfingers · 11/06/2023 22:45

Shein mostly.

ObviouslyNameChanged99 · 11/06/2023 22:48

Next online is better than the shop. Some Next own brand is good but they also have Lipsy, Sosander and Love & Roses. I also like some Roman clothes but hate a lot of them too, if that helps?! 😬🤣

Muddlingthroughthissocalledlife · 11/06/2023 23:05

Varley. Try Varley. Great quality and good styling.

Muddlingthroughthissocalledlife · 11/06/2023 23:16

Also

Freepeople
Gap
Anthropology
American vintage
Superdry
Hush
Tu at Sainsbury's

SemperIdem · 11/06/2023 23:19

Mango
Zara
H+M
Marks and Spencer
Mint Velvet
Stradivarius

FiddleLeaf · 11/06/2023 23:20

I rely on Whistles. H&M online is pretty good but you have to know what you want or their range is too massive.

FiddleLeaf · 11/06/2023 23:21

Oh & Arket in the winter. Great knitwear!

CharlotteSometimes1 · 11/06/2023 23:24

Can you just stop with the rampant ageism, you do realise you’re insulting your future selves. Style is ageless.

This.

VerveClique · 11/06/2023 23:32

Fashion isn't really ageless though is it? I mean I'd look rubbish in a matching bodycon cropped top and cycling short combo as would MOST women my age... however if you're a lithe young thing then go for it!!

CharlotteSometimes1 · 11/06/2023 23:37

Style and fashion are not the same thing.

Style is ageless but whether the style (or quality) you want for yourself is stocked in New Look is another thing entirely.

Mariposa123 · 12/06/2023 05:45

I don’t think anyone is being ageist by saying they don’t want to wear tight and skimpy clothes in cheap and thin polyester that the teenagers manage to get away with.

on the other hand when you’re jn you’re 30s a lot of people don’t want to wear the same stuff as their mum. Which isn’t putting down what my mum wears, but you’re at a different life stage. It’s true a lot of shops forget that middle ground.

MaverickSnoopy · 12/06/2023 06:02

Same boat here, late 30s, problem areas that need flattering clothes. I feel like the shops have disappeared and there is less selection.

I tend to spend ages trying to find something. I usually shop online and type into Google the type of item that I'm looking for (eg sleeveless navy dress) and see what appears.

I mostly wear Joules, M&S for basics and Amazon (which actually has some good stuff). I use Vinted a lot too. I have also found that well structured underwear helps me with the problem areas and then it opens up more clothing options.

Ineedcoffee2021 · 12/06/2023 06:02

shien
killstar
blackcraft
punkrave
restyle

All online, i havent bought clothes in an actual shop in YEARS

TheOGCCL · 12/06/2023 08:21

Bit older but I know this dilemma well. Personally I think mid thirties on you need to go to various places and pick carefully, that's the best way to find the middle way between New Look and Seasalt (I have things from both).

I also like Mango, Matalan, M&S, Gap at Next, Stradivararius, Primark and Esprit. I was in C&A in Europe last week, it's a shame they aren't in the UK anymore as they had some classic stuff. I quite like browsing John Lewis as they have a big range of brands

Cosycover · 12/06/2023 08:25

I buy most basics from H&M.
Then it's a mixture of New Look, Matalan etc

I am not very stylish tbh!

KirstenBlest · 12/06/2023 14:25

@VerveClique , is that due to age? Crop tops and Mom/skinny jeans are popular here and slim teenage girls look great in them.

Crop tops and cycling shorts are popular too and young women/older girls gnerally look dreadful in them because they are very overweight and look unhealthy.

I'd look awful in those outfits not because I'm not young, but because I'm not in good shape. I'd look scraggy and crepey.

Bearpawk · 12/06/2023 14:35

H&M search key words 'cotton/ linen/ wool' that filters out all the polyester shite
Zara
Cos
Uniqlo
Monki for plain dresses and jumpsuits

Bearpawk · 12/06/2023 14:35

In and John Lewis - brands like Kin/ hush
