Do gradual tan moisturisers work and look OK?

This year I am going to try to avoid getting a tan for health reasons. I don't want the bother of constantly doing self tan and the risk of streaks etc. Do gradual tan moisturisers look OK? If I were to use one regularly in the run up to a beach holiday for example, would it go patchy in the water or if I reapplied every evening would it look OK?

Also any brand recommendations would be appreciated! Thanks.

I use bondi sands gradual tanner. Easy to apply, doesn't streak or stain and is fantastic on problem areas such as hands, feet and knees.

I don't get applying it on multiple days. Just use a normal fake tan once a week. Looks better, less faff and you only smell for a day. Less chance of streaks too as you are only applying once.

But you have to do it perfectly. With the gradual stuff, it doesn’t matter if you miss a bit or whatever because you do it again the next day.

I read on here that Dove Gradual Tanner was the holy grail.
It isn't for me.
It takes ages to dry and is patchy.
One leg is more tanned ( but badly ) than the other 🙄

Bondi sands every day tanning mousse is the best I’ve found. Apply with a tanning mitt and it’s £4.99 from home bargains. Streak free easy to apply and doesn’t smell too bad

I use Dove fair to medium. From May onwards I just use it like a daily moisturiser after bath/shower

Moopsi · 09/06/2023 23:45

Thank you so much. I will start experimenting!

Do you not find it takes ages to dry ?

LadyEloise1 · 10/06/2023 09:37

Perhaps you use the mousse one ?

Softoprider · 10/06/2023 09:39

I have just bought the Dove fair to medium one as well. Using it today

StewPots · 10/06/2023 09:40

I find gradual moisturisers a bit hit and miss so I use Bondi Sands gradual tanning oil applied with a mitt and the long back thingy I can’t remember the name for 🤣

I always have an even tan after 2-3 applications ( every night after my shower ) and it lasts really well too.

Mananarama · 10/06/2023 09:41

I got the Dove fair to mild and honestly I think it’s a bit yellowy. Better than nothing and will continue to use but it’s not the colour I’d go naturally.

Is the Garnier less yellowy?

ohidoliketobe · 10/06/2023 09:42

Bondi Sands products are fantastic, either gradual mousse or milk (moisturiser) applied with a mitt, and then a little onto a make up brush for hands, feet and face. After a shower, let it dry for 10 mins then get dressed. Repeat every day until you reach desired colour and every 2/3 days from then. It just becomes second nature After a few days of doing it

merrymelodies · 10/06/2023 09:48

I just bought Bondi Sands with the mitt because I read rave reviews about it from different (trusted) sources. I'm hoping to try it over the weekend.

Thighdentitycrisis · 10/06/2023 10:51

@LadyEloise1
not really, I use the cream

5childrenand · 10/06/2023 10:55

I used to use dove but Bondi Sands gives a much more natural colour.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 10/06/2023 10:57

Bare by Vogue gives a very good even tan, not gradual one but the best tan I have used so far.

standardduck · 10/06/2023 11:01

I like Bondi sands gradual moisturizer. It doesn't streak and doesn't take forever to dry.

St Moritz foam is cheap and works well too if you want something quicker and not gradual.

face - tan luxe drops are the best I tried so far. I mix it with my usual moisturizer twice a week.

I haven't tried garnier, but since so many people are raving about it I might give it a go. I tried Dover (golden bottle) light, but it did nothing for me.

EvelynBeatrice · 10/06/2023 11:34

I don't like gradual tanners. If you need to shave your legs every day or two when on holiday, then I have found that they all go patchy however much I exfoliate or moisturise. If you're a waxer, it may not be an issue. I haven't had this issue with the one and done types of self tanner

Ihaveamagicwand · 10/06/2023 21:59

Dove gradual tanning mousse in fair to medium for me. It isn’t sticky and dries quickly, doesn’t transfer, doesn’t go streaky. As with all you have to take care around knees. I only need to use it on my legs, why does the rest of me go golden brown just not my legs? Wash hands as per normal after application.

explainthistomeplease · 11/06/2023 08:18

I like Dove for my body and use clarins drops in my normal moisturiser for my face. I find both work well
