3 years of skin and me

bonfirebash · 08/06/2023 18:42

Logged in today to find it's 3 years since I started using it. Know a lot of people ask so thought I would post! It's a treatment, not a moisturiser and it takes time so you have to be prepared for the long haul
I've paid for every month myself so not sponsored but I don't see many people posting who have used it for a while
Here's my start pics, in 2020

And now, I'm nearly 40 so 3 years older than in the previous pics
It's just changed my skin. I no longer wake up wondering where my acne will be or what I have to cover with concealer or foundation. Also I like the simplicity. I don't use it nightly as I like to use other stuff as well but every other night, which works for me to help with any flaking/sensitivity too

Wow! Your skin looks amazing! Such a lovely, even tone and texture. Thanks for posting. I'll look into it now!

Ohgooodgodwhathashappened · 08/06/2023 19:27

Stunning! Do you mind me asking why you went with Skin & Me over Dermatica? I literally purchased the latters today.

Oh and what were your active ingredients?

AnyaMarx · 08/06/2023 19:29

Friend just invited me to this but not sure ....

AnyaMarx · 08/06/2023 19:30

How much is it and do you have to subscribe?

Farmageddon · 08/06/2023 20:05

You look great OP, your skin is so even. I have been using tretinoin for about 4 years now and still I have some redness around my nose and chin, which is annoying.

But I have the smooth, clear, bright, healthy looking skin I didn't have a few years ago.

Yes you usually need to sign up to a subscription service as tretinoin (the main active ingredient) can only be gotten on prescription in many countries.

Be warned though, it can take a few weeks/months for your skin to acclimatise. I had redness and peeling for quite a while when I started using it. Also make sure you use sunscreen everyday to protect your skin.

I get mine from an online pharmacy called Farmacia Andorra, as I'm not in the UK and can't sign up to Dermatica or Skin and me.

AnyaMarx · 08/06/2023 20:15

I've got suspected rheumatoid arthritis and my skin is majorly sensitive to UV so darent subscribe

mamaison · 08/06/2023 20:15

I think mine is two years and it’s just amazing. I was getting sporadic cystic acne and always so scared about what other skincare and makeup could be causing it. Plus worried about wrinkles. Now I can use whatever skincare and makeup I choose. It’s amazing to have a product that helps both spots and aging.

mnahmnah · 08/06/2023 20:37

I’ve been using it for 5 months and my skin has improved so much. People have commented how well I look. I looked suddenly older and hated it. I feel myself again now!

cpphelp · 08/06/2023 20:44

I signed up for skin and me for free.... arrived, all good.
My husband then signed up for skin and me (when I ran out)..... I was shocked to find out the pharmacist felt we both had the exact same skin so same prescription!
I submitted different pictures for us both obviously..... load of rubbish, sorry OP!

I did try dermatica but skin and me had the starting offer, I tried to see if it was different and preferred the texture
0.1 tret, 4% niacinamide 4% Azelaic acid but that's built up over time

It's a prescription but it's not particularly personalised as such
Effectively most people want tret, and are signing up for wrinkles/acne/pigmentation
I'm not sponsored or working for them so off hand I can't remember exactly what they prescribe
But if you clicked say anti ageing or fine lines as concerns and so did he, you would get the same prescription
It's not that you've got the same skin, it's like you both want to treat the same thing and they have one thing that treats that (if that makes any sense!)

Found the list

So the main ones are
Tretinoin, niacinamide, azelaic acjd which is the most common
For acne they have clindamycin to add
For rosacea they have metronidazole

OP posts:
minipie · 08/06/2023 21:48

I tried Skin & Me but it wasn’t as effective for my acne as Epiduo (benzoyl peroxide and adapalene, a retinoid) which I get from the GP for much less £. And I can’t use both because they are both retinoids and I’d be doubling up. So I stopped and went back to Epiduo.

So for anyone considering it mainly for acne I’d suggest trying whatever your GP can give you first.

The thing is, they really give our mostly the same 'prescriptions' for everyone, unless you specifically ask for something different.
The USP of the service is that it provides a prescription only product for people without them having to visit a dermatologist.

I have the same combo from dermatica, six months in I can really see the difference. It was a bit ropey the first couple of months. I don't wear foundation anymore, don't deed it.

That's interesting - I didn't think benzoyl peroxide was supposed to be used at the same time as a retinoid as they worked against eachother or something.

Adapalene must have been formulated much better than tretinoin (which is a notorious drama queen).

Definitely. I went to the GP as I had acne on my back which I never had before and they prescribed for me (turns out a £6 Amazon soap worked better but anyway) Grin

I never tried anything prescribed as in my head it wasn't bad enough and acnecide worked just enough to keep it under control. It took trying the tret to see the actual difference it could make

@bonfirebash please can you link me the soap? I get terrible back acne which was under control until I came off the pill last year.

Sure, I used it as the last thing in the shower and let it sit on my skin for a minute or so. Use a back brush or something as the bits are scratchy

I figured if it didn't work I had a bar of soap to use Grin it worked for my dad as well with spots on his shoulders

I started Dermatica three years ago this month. I tried Skin and Me briefly. They both do the same thing, I think Skin and Me start you off on a lower strength tretinoin so better potentially for sensitive skin. I think Skin and Me might be slightly more expensive at the moment - both have raised their prices recently.

Definitely a game changer for me, my skin looks much better now than three years ago (47 now) and obviously I’ve aged in that time. It has taken away all my pigmentation including my freckles (which I kind of miss but they were sun damage). I wish these services had been available when I was in my thirties. If you’re on the fence and can afford (you can then choose basic moisturisers etc), I say go for it.

I still do get some spots as I have had raging hormonal issues for years but tret is great in that it deals with both wrinkles and spots, which are a pretty common (very unfair) combination. I had clindamycin to start but they won’t let you have that long term. I have niacinamide for oily skin too.

I used Retirides from Spain prior to this but found that very harsh and requiring much more careful handling.

StarGuide · 09/06/2023 09:55

Amazing it looks like you've foundation and filter!
thanks for posting the result.
