Item to wear under wedding dress to stop skin irritation - spanx or other suggestions?

Just been for my first wedding dress fitting (why do I seem to have put on weight?!)

I have very sensitive skin and it was getting irritated by the mesh of the dress and also the petticoat type thing the hoop is attached to

My seamstress has suggested getting a pair of shorts e.g. control underwear or similar, to create a barrier between the fabric and my skin.

If it could be nice and cooling that would be a dream too as for someone who is always cold, I can't stand the heat and was getting all hot and sweaty stood there for the fitting, which I think was adding to the skin irritation

However practicalities - I've found some potential short type things very unsexy and will need to be hidden somewhere at the end of the night however what about going for a wee?! How do I get them back up inside the dress?!

Does anyone have any wonder solutions?

Spanx have a split gusset so you can wee without having to wrangle them off and on!

How about just an old fashioned luxury silk slip? It will keep you warm/ cool appropriate and you can use it as a nightie or petticoat after. Department stores used to do whole ranges of wedding night underwear. Alternatively, why not look at a different style of dress? If you're uncomfortable even in the fitting, a whole day will be miserable

Why not a long silk slip? Most good lingerie shops will stock one.

I like Anti chafing shorts by The Big Bloomers Company.

I’ve been wearing chub rub shorts by Snag. They are a revelation, very comfortable, not hot and stops all the chafing. My thighs are quite slim but they still rub in hot weather.

I would also second (third?) a slip. M&S have some that I tried for the first time last year and am a total convert in terms of how they keep you cool and also smooth clothing over the top

Silk underwear used to be a standard part of a bride’s ‘trousseau’. I’m actually surprised wedding dress shops don’t include suitable underpinnings as part of the bridal outfit.

Obviously if you’re shopping in a normal shop I guess you have to think of all the extras yourself.

Ooh I didn't think to try a slip - would be more comfortable than being held in by spanx but also useful to know there's a pee hole if I do go for them

The next challenge- it needs to be strapless! And preferably not cost the earth

Is anyone able to find one?!

I did consider cycling shorts, as I could fold the material at the top of the petticoat thing down, so it's level with the top of them

Could you cut the straps off (or just leave them down) and stitch/tack the top of the slip to your bra? It wouldn't need sewing all the way round.
