Superga sizing?

purplemunkey · 06/06/2023 21:20

Does anyone know what Superga sizing is like? I'm a 4 in some brands 4.5 in others and am wondering which one to go for. I'm looking at the classic plimsole and was planning on wearing them with pop socks or bare feet. Any advice on whether they run small/big/true to size would be appreciated. And are they comfy?

Mine eat my feet.

Seriously, I can usually wear shoes in and my feet are “well used” according to the podiatrist, but these give me awful blisters on the tops of my toes every single time, even though I use socks with them. Hate them and deeply resent the money I spent on them.

Think mine are half a size up on my normal and the length and breath are ok - they’re just useless.

purplemunkey · 06/06/2023 21:25

Ah, maybe not Superga then! I'm looking for some light plimsole style shoes for summer, mostly for the office. We have a smart/casual dress code so I'm normally in jeans and a decent top.

I’ve worn Supergas for about 30 years a normally a size 5/38, but consistently in supergas I’m a 37

PeriwinkleForever · 06/06/2023 21:31

I’ve just bought my sixth pair of white superga- they tend to last me 12-18 months each time, and I have plenty of other colours too. They are the only trainers where I can buy my size and know there is no wearing in required - I wear them with trainer socks or
mostly barefoot tbh and I can walk miles in them.

I am a size 7 but buy these in a 6.5 and they are perfect - they do run big. I’ve never had a sore, mark or blister from them.

it always really surprises me on mumsnet when I see people saying how superga killed their feet when they’re genuinely my holy grail of summer footwear. It just goes to show that it’s horses for courses.

worth trying them to see what you think but I wear these on city breaks too and in rome last month I walked 60km in four days all in my trusty superga!

So1invictus · 06/06/2023 21:36

I live in Italy so 20 or so years ago everyone wore Superga all summer. I had them in various colours. As did everyone else, all ages.
Then I think we collectively woke up and thought why the fuck are we putting our feet through the weeks of rubbing and blisters before they are OK. They're really heavy as well.
Never see anyone in them now. I did read the company was on the brink of going under a couple of years ago.

Sizing- pretty generous.

Have a look at Fitflop Rally.

I’m jealous. I love the look but the crease line just lands in exactly the wrong place for my poor feet.

it’s a shame you have to drop the ££s to figure out my horse is a ruined old nag while yours is a thoroughbred racehorse.

Haha that made me laugh. Tbh I’m usually cautious about shoes and half expect pain and blisters while breaking them in so I’ve always been pleasantly surprised by my superga experience.

purplemunkey · 06/06/2023 21:46

Thanks, but those FitFlop Rally are a bit too chunky for me. For regular trainers I like Nike, but I'm looking for something a bit more subtle and lightweight and for wearing in the office. Superga look about right but mixed reviews above! I might try and get some sale ones and see how they work for me. I'll go for a 4 based on the comments above.

I have worn them for years -I buy a 40 - in M&S wide fit I'm a 6.5

I've never had a problem with them - can't believe how ££ they are now - I buy in sales or from M&M direct when I buys my sons sports gear

Steppingintome · 06/06/2023 21:55

I bought my normal size. Seemed comfy and fit well. Wore to the park which is 10 mins walk away with trainer socks. On the way back my toe felt a bit sore. Got home I was in agony. Took trainer off and there was blood all over my sock. My little toe had a chunk missing out of the skin! Never wore them again. Just be careful as they seem ok but then rub like mad.

Ooh, good tip. Looking at MandM now and they have lots of styles half price.

I found them much too heavy. They're not as lightweight as they look, unfortunately.

BeaLola · 06/06/2023 22:00

purpkemunkey if using M&M check returns - used to be cheaper to buy a label with order if you think you are likely to send back as footwear weighs heavy - I tend to buy 2 sizes for my DS in his trainers and then return the too small /too big one

rcat74 · 06/06/2023 22:01

I wear my normal size and they don’t rub but I wouldn’t buy them again as the sole is very hard so not comfortable for long. I couldn’t believe how springy and soft converse were when I tried some on to compare.

Anniissa · 06/06/2023 22:03

I love mine. I have fairly wide feet and am normally a 5.5 but the 5 fits perfectly and they’re the only ones I’ve bought that never needed wearing in. I’ve worn them from brand new on holiday with no socks walking 5-10k a day and never had any issues which is extremely rare for me as I usually find buying shoes that are comfortable and don’t make my feet bleed pretty hard. I’ve since bought multiple pairs in different styles and never found them anything but super comfortable.

OneFrenchEgg · 06/06/2023 22:13

I love the look but have gone back to converse. Just don't feel right - i hankered after them for months and hardly wear them.

purplemunkey · 06/06/2023 22:19

I've never been keen on converse. Horses for courses indeed!

I went for a half price pair from MandM - thanks BeaLola. I will report back on whether I'm in the 'comfy' or 'tore my feet to shreds' camp :D

Superga weigh about 4 times as much as Fitflop Rally. Have you actually seen and held a Superga? As others have said, Converse might be an idea, much lighter than Superga and same sort of style.

purplemunkey · 07/06/2023 09:01

Thanks So1invictus, I meant chunky in look. Sorry, those FitFlops just aren’t my style.

TheVikingGirl · 07/06/2023 09:02

I have the white leather ones, purchased in 2019 and still going strong (with some care and cleaning)! They aren’t comfy straight away they take some wearing in but I love mine and I personally find them more comfortable than vans and converse!

AmITooOldToDoThis · 07/06/2023 10:33

I have several pairs and I love them. Never found them uncomfortable.

purplemunkey · 08/06/2023 12:44

They've arrived and I'm pretty pleased so far. They are beautiful - I got some very summery ones with a light floral pattern. They came with two sets of laces and a pretty tote bag. I'm glad I asked about sizing as the 4 is just right, a 4.5 would have been too big.

I've only worn them around the house so far, but they don't feel heavy to me. I'll see how they feel once I've worn them out and about but I can't see much potential for rubbing the way they fit.

OP posts:
BeaLola · 08/06/2023 16:29

Glad you like them - M&M Direct have them on and off - I'd say it's good being a 4 as they often have the smaller sizes as opposed to the 6. 6.5 & 7 range .

After the summer it's worth keeping an eye on the uk superga site as you can get good discounts too

Saucery · 08/06/2023 16:34

They are the only plimsolls I can wear without liner socks that don’t chew my feet up. I get a 41.5 and they fit perfectly. I’m a 41 in trainers usually and a 42 in walking boots. I can also get othortic insoles into them comfortably. Just added a third pair to my collection in a different colour.
