Green for a wedding dress

I have an invite for a summer wedding and it occurred to me that I could wear this dress (very similar but no sparkly belt) but I vaguely remember that green is sometimes said to be unsuitable for a wedding dress?

What do you think?

I would probably put a shawl / lacy bolero/ little jacket with it, depending on how hot the day is.

Also, any ideas for very comfortable shoes that would go with it? I prefer not to have my toes on display if I can avoid it and need flats or very low heels with padded soles, as I have had some foot problems.

Looks like a perfect wedding guest dress to me

It's a lovely dress. "No green" at a wedding is a ridiculous "rule". Not that it is a "rule. I've never heard it anywhere except on here.

Someone will be along soon to tell you , you can't wear a shawl and you need a blazer. You can a wear a shawl as you'll only need to put something round your shoulders if it's cold in the church or when you're hanging around for photos. A shawl won't swamp or hide the main attraction - the dress.

Flats or low heels will be perfect too with that style of dress. I think pretty flats are can actually be more dressy than heels.

‘Married in green, not fit to be seen’. Told to me by my DGM when I was planning a green and gold wedding dress! It’s meant to make the fairies jealous as it’s their colour so they will bring bad luck to the wedding.
yes it’s rubbish but I still can’t wear green to a wedding!

MaudGonneOutForChips · 06/06/2023 08:31

Superstitious people will point at you and mutter behind their hands about you being an evil fairy wishing ill-luck on the bride.

Actually, no they won’t, apart from the occasional outlying loon. It’s a nice dress. I love green.

@MaudGonneOutForChips I love how your comment comes straight after someone saying exactly thatGrin

I wore a dress that colour to a wedding with pale gold sandals so pale gold full shoes would work

I wore green to my own wedding 20 odd years ago! I think it's a beautiful dress and you should wear it. Agree with PP that dressy flat shoes would look stunning.

I wore all green dress to my wedding too! It's going all right so far.......

Daffodilwoman · 06/06/2023 17:57

I’ve worn green to a wedding before, perfectly acceptable.

GettingStuffed · 06/06/2023 18:14

I wore green to my best friend's wedding.

newtowelsplease · 06/06/2023 18:57

I think it's gorgeous and perfectly suitable for a wedding. The bright shoes in the photo set it off beautifully and look very summery

SummaLuvin · 06/06/2023 20:12

I think the 'no green' comes from Irish culture, and I'm not even sure how strictly observed it is there! So providing this isn't an Irish wedding you should be fine.

FindingTheFox · 06/06/2023 20:15

The dress is lovely, I've never heard of the no green rule.

fruitbrewhaha · 06/06/2023 20:18

I’ve never heard that rule. It’s not very summery, looks like something you’d wear around Christmas.

BigShoutyRaven · 06/06/2023 20:38

Not a real green dress?
