Help me tuck things in

Anyone got any advice for me... I tend to wear a high waisted things because otherwise my tummy just pokes over the top, and I find it more comfy to have it all zipped up. Obviously though you can still tell I have a tummy. I can see visually that tucking things into the waist emphasises my narrowest part of the waist and looks better than not tucking in, which essentially emphasises my hips. But I just cannot make myself tuck in because my brain says having material over my tummy is hiding it. I don't think it is really but I just can't get past it. Anyone managed to change their habits of a lifetime??

I had the same issue for ages and eventually realised how much better tucking can look, but if done properly (because so many tucked in shirts can just add more volume to exactly the bit that you want to streamline, and the tucked out bit can look a bit puffy. There are lots of video and tutorials showing you tucking hacks (eg using a hair band to tie up excess fabric at the back and tucking it inwards, etc). Worth experimenting with different types of tops

I'm totally the same. I've a massive gut but somehow can't bring myself to tuck

@Polkadottyas First pic is miles better, as it’s giving you shape

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 04/06/2023 21:28

Have you tried tucking off centre? I sometimes find that helps to disguise my pouch a little

Tangelo · 04/06/2023 21:38

I am pretty spherical and resisted tucking for a ages but once I started wearing wider-leg trousers again i couldn’t hold off any more! Otherwise I really do look like a massive brick.

With an oversize shirt (like this one) and girlfriend jeans I tend to tuck all the way at the front as it’s light and quite billowy. With a t-shirt and wide legged trousers I do a French tuck, normally in the centre but sometimes off centre. I find M&S modern fit t-shirts are the perfect balance of boxy and fitted and a good weight for tucking (Ie not so heavy they don’t drape).

I would say I tuck things in the majority of the time now. Tho I do also wear a sligjtly cropped boxy t-shirt with flared jeans that achieves the same flattering-ness without tucking in. I think it’s about tops not hitting your hips if you have a lot of volume in your bottom (Ie: your bottom half clothes rather than your actual bum - tho I quite often have both!)

The type of print to transport you to warm memories. With a button down relaxed silouhette and the colour palette of a tropical sunset. A slightly oversized fit and extra length at the back to cover your bum in swimwear, trousers, or your favourite den...

@Polkadottyas I think the first one looks good. I have issues with my stomach and how it looks and so I understand the whole ticking thing. I watched a Trinny video on You Tube ( I recommend her channel as she does designer and high street) and in one of the videos said something about people noticing your stomach. I would repeat it but I get these things jumbled/ not very good wording but it’s worth watching her videos for her styling tips etc.

@Downsizeddumpling @TheOGCCL
I don't mean to derail but this was fresh in my head due to recent attempts at dressing myself (I didn't even wear that skirt and top in the end!(. I feel so utterly self conscious of my tummy but I can see that the bleurgh of the baggy isn't good either.

I hear you. To be honest, I think this outfit looks better tucked out. The top has detail at the bottom that is not meant to be tucked in, and the skirt to me doesn't need something tucking it needs skimming. However if you were wearing high waisted wide legged jeans and a plainer top I would defo agree it would look better tucked.

Thank you for all your replies. I will look at trinny and try a side tuck maybe. I don't really own any cropped t shirts because I'm scared of them but maybe it would be less scary than tucking!! I love wide legged trousers so maybe I also need to buy more ☺️

You look great in the second picture. The first one looks like you've got the bottom of your top tucked in by accident.

Downsizeddumpling · 05/06/2023 06:19

I think the key to tuck or not to tuck @atthebottomofthehill is your own sense of confidence. If you feel. Ore confident with it untucked then you should go for that.

JumbleAndKitchen · 05/06/2023 06:24

@Polkadottyas I think the first picture, tucked in, is miles better.

Sammysquiz · 05/06/2023 06:33

I find it helps to tuck the top into my knickers first, and then put my trousers/skirts on. Looks more streamlined!).

Yes 100%!

GettingStuffed · 05/06/2023 09:27

That top isn't designed to tuck in. Tucked in you are making the peplum look odd. I would try it with a different top though.

Cantonet · 05/06/2023 09:38

@Polkadottyas you look two sizes bigger in the second picture. The tucked in version is much more flattering ( dare I say this on mn any more?)

louderthan · 05/06/2023 10:48

I'm the same. I'm a classic apple shape and I just can't tell if tucking works for me or not. It seems to just draw attention to the fact that I don't have a waist!

GeriKellmansUpdo · 05/06/2023 11:14

Marking!

lindyloo57 · 05/06/2023 13:02

I'm petite and would like to know where I can buy tops that are cut shorter, so I dont have tuck, I did look in zara and h &m but they were too cropped , there was a gap between my jeans and the top.

Polkadottyas · 05/06/2023 14:49

I'm not offended by any of the comments and would be keen to get more opinions to be perfectly honest as my DH is hopeless at not wanting to offend so being too bland ! I think the peplum in this top is better with tighter bottoms eg jeans
I did have a t shirt on before this but got make up on the neck and was trying other options. I wore a dress in the end (was trying outfits for day drinks - very casual)

GeriKellmansUpdo · 05/06/2023 14:52

I think peplums accentuate my belly. In fact, most of the advice for dressing apples is garbage, I think. I think something with a shirred or elasticated waist is better on me. Still need to learn how to tuck though.

DedicatedFolllowerofFashion · 06/06/2023 15:19

I hate peplums!
