Spray Tan Before Holiday Abroad

Off on holiday in a few weeks and currently resemble Casper the ghost's long lost cousin... has anyone had a spray tan before going abroad? Part of me thinks it's a great idea, and part of me thinks it's going to disappear as soon as the sea touches my skin.... does anyone have any experience or tips please?

Thanks in advance!

If it will give you some confidence, do it.
I've never had a spray tan but do use fake tan. It comes off in a swimming pool, so it needs re-application.

Had my first sparky tan before my beach holiday last year and it was a great idea. It lasts a bit under a week but that's enough time to get some colour naturally before it fades. Also I was surprised at how natural it looked.
Word of caution: be ready to get your clothes and bed linen stained until you can shower the next day. It washes easily off the sheets so that's OK.
Also make sure you have it as close as possible to your holiday because it doesn't last long.

Sparky tan? Fake tan

I always get a spray tan before a holiday, then take a gradual tanner with me to try and keep it topped up. Take an exfoliator glove in case it starts to come off patchy around elbows etc.

I always get a fake spray tan before going on holiday. Save poor souls seeing my peely Wally white Scottish skin, lol. I look way healthier with a tan too.

I've just been on holiday and used Coco and Eve fake tan to try and cover my milk bottle legs....I'm amazed, its absolutely fantastic, looks so natural, I'll be using it all summer now....it just looks like I got a tan on holiday and I can keep it going.

I’m a big fan of tanning drops in my usual moisturisers in this situation. Easy to keep applying when needed and just revert to moisturiser as the holiday goes in and you have a bit of colour. I use isle of paradise light ones.

My skin has a blue tinge most of the year. I swim a few times a week and have never had a fake tan so I can't comment on that.

I use ESPA's body lotion with a gradual tan for a week or two if I want to look less pale, I'd be fearful that I'd leave a handprint if I used anything stronger (wouldn't expect to be any good at it!).

I exfoliate daily with one of those shower scrubbers and use ESPA's scrub once a week. You have to exfoliate otherwise it just looks patchy/rubbish.

It’s a good idea- do it!

Thank you all so much - decision made! ☀️

I've never had a spray tan (too afraid of having a Ross from Friends incident, or having to stand in paper undercrackers in front of a stranger) but my sister does before holidays. She does say it gets lighter as the holiday goes on but I suppose your natural tan would get darker as the fake tan wouldn't stop you from tanning?

Vitriolinsanity · 04/06/2023 20:16

The trick with spray tan is to have one that's lighter in colour. Sun kissed vs Ronseal.

They also sweat off, so make sure you've got a mitt to exfoliate as you tan naturally.

I've never had a spray tan but I have always used Garnier Summer Body as it fades very naturally as you're getting colour throughout the holiday :)
