I suddenly smell of BO

I use a strong deodorant and have been washing my armpits every day, including today and yesterday with a salicylic wash as I’ve read this helps a bit I showered and washed about 7 hours ago, I used a new deodorant and I smell already. I haven’t been sweating.

what can I do? I have some Dricolor but my god it’s sore and itchy. I’ve never had this before? I’m healthy otherwise.

Are you sure it's you and not your clothes? I've had a few tops that just had an armpit type smell I couldn't get rid of. I was convinced I had BO. I went through all my tops, soaked the pits in white vinegar, put them on for a long wash and then dried them outside. If there was the whiff of anything after that, or the next time I wore something, it went straight in the bin.

I do too, Sure maximum protection

This is the one I have been using, at £5 a pop and it’s just stopped working.

I’ve added in washing with salicylic body wash and nothing is helping.

I know it’s not the clothes as I put on a new tshirt the other day and it smelled of BO within a couple of hours.

Such a horrible symptom, I’m worried about all my clothes getting ruined too.

I started to have a smell issue earlier this year and thanks to a similar thread managed to sort it out overnight. I'm sure it's hormonal/perimenopause as I've never been bothered before. Would often forget to wear deodorant entirely and not smell.

The solution was dettol bar soap in the shower then sure maximum protection x3 stick deodorant. I also use Asda liquid talc under bra/in cleavage when I know it's going to be a hot day.

However the itch is possibly fungal in which case get some canesten on there. And talc to keep it dry.

Triple dry is the only thing that works for me. Cruelty free too.

Any chance you could be pregnant? The only time I could smell myself was when I was pregnant.

Agree with PPs who said Perspirex is much nicer to use than driclor, but works equally well. Also, I find that deodorants do stop working after I’ve used them for a while, but switching to a differently perfumed one of the same kind works. I alternate between the original and pomegranate Dove cream ones.

Have you tried using the Sure maximum the way that is recommended? -That is, shower at night, apply at night after shower and before bed rather than in the morning. It makes a HUGE difference.

I do this and use bar soap, and I only have to apply it once every three nights.

Haffiana · 03/06/2023 15:19

Also - if you have used the Sure on your pits without having washed first for any reason, say as a 'top up', then you can transfer bacteria/odour onto the product itself and then back on your armpits next time, and this may be causing the product to not work as well as it should.

Triple Dry deodorant does the same as Driclor but doesn't itch - worth a try. I used to use it to help with sweat patches. Mitchum roll on works best for me.
