Going from blonde to brown at home

Hey,

I have dark blonde balyage highlights in, but I’m naturally brunette. I was wondering if it’s ok to go from my blonde to brown again at home? I’d normally go to hairdressers but with the current situation I’m worried about finances and just not sure if I can afford it. I’ve read that hair can go greenish in this process if not careful which I’m worried about.

I had a very terrible result 20 years ago doing this at home. In the end I had to pay to sort it out and it would have been better to have paid the money and not had the embarrassment.

Someone might have a better outcome than me though and have some ideas.

I went from blonde highlights back to brunette at the end of last year, I had it done at hairdressers though and I’m glad I did.To stop it going green they first dyed it orange/red in order to get the warm red undertone back into my hair, then dyed it brown over this. It’s a risky business doing it yourself as it’s all to do with colour theory which a hairdresser will know lots about.
I did consider doing it myself but knew I’d probably end up in a hairdressers anyway having to have it corrected!

I’m a natural blonde, but used to bleach the hell out of it as a teenager in order to help whacky, semi-permanent colours take better. Then I decided I was done with that and wanted to go brunette. My cousin is a hairdresser, and did my hair over the course of 5 days. First step was to do my whole head fire engine red 😂😂 The red apparently prevents the green tinge 🤷🏻‍♀️ A few days later she began with the dark brown colour and it turned out great.

I did my own about three years ago. Dye it red first, then brown over that.

Dye first with something with a red undertone, then go over with brown.

If you go straight to brown, 9/10 (unless the brown dye has a red undertone) you will get a green tinge.

I did this around xmas. Hair was very blonde with horrid dark roots. Went mid brown. Picked a brown with some warmth and I have a bit of natural warmth too. It didn't go green but if you're worried yes you need to go red as an intermediary step.
