Ridge on nail

Help! I have a really bad ridge on one nail that ends up getting an indentation and splits. It then also collects stuff so looks awful. I can't wear any nail varnish as even ones that are meant to strengthen end up drying out my nails and causing splits.
Any suggestions? I'm desperate here!

What is your diet like?
Asking as low iron, low folic acid, low protein diet can all cause ridges & splitting. I’ve also known people comment that their nails have been stronger since they started taking vitamin D but that could be coincidental.

Thanks. My diet is so so - too much sugar but plenty of protein and I'm on multivits shat should very iron and folic acid. I have regular blood tests do know my vit d is OK.

Have you tried cutting the nail? I mean cut the new growth off every week, minimal filing just to smooth with a block buffer or similar. If you get ahead of it by cutting it off before it splinters you might be able to grow it out. Or try a bit of nail glue or acrylic just at the edge?

Hi. I've done all those and no joy. Guess I need to restart the cycle.

Have you tried lots of massaging around the nail bed to encourage a good blood supply?

Also, someone on here recommended Marine Collagen on a thread about weak nails a while ago. I tried it for mine which were very weak and flaky and it's made such a difference.

Thank you, I'll try both of those.

Try adding in a cuticle oil.

Does it have a brownish tinge to it or is that just the photo? If it does I would get it checked by a doctor just in case.

The brown is just the light, thank you. Apparently ridges run in my family.

I will check out the videos and incorporate as many of these ideas as I can. Thank you!
