Bad bruising with Botox. Would it be rude to ask dr to inject more gently?

I got Botox on Thursday night on my 11s and on the wrinkles on the corners of my eyes. It's working really well however the doctor I go to injects me really hard and it's agony! I've got a bruise on every single injection point and I reckon they'll take about 10 days to go. I'm getting my top up in a week's time- any tips to reduce bruising so I don't bruise all over again? Would it be rude to ask her to inject a little more gently? I've had Botox a few times from other practitioners (nurse, doctor, dentist) and I'm sure I've never bruised like this.
Botox lasts max 3 months with me so I don't really want to be bruised for 1 month!

@bidenfor I think she applied arnica as I said to her I'm really prone to bruising. She is prone to bruising too and loves arnica cream (whereas I think it's snake oil as all homeopathic products are!)

I used to go to one place and he was really rough. I now go elsewhere and rarely bruise (or feel it!). Try another practitioner

YouTarzan · 31/05/2023 13:13

If it really hurt I would go elsewhere!

got tear trough fillers, cheek fillers and marionette lines filled too so my poor face was throbbing!

I'm not surprised! All that. Shock

Ok I'll not embarrass myself by asking her to go gently 😆 I'm pale and bruise really easily but she is bloody fierce with the needle!

You could mention to her that you bruised but without the added advice or request about being more gentle?

pharmachameleon · 31/05/2023 13:38

@redbigbananafeet I've mentioned to her before that I've bruised and she says-yep I bruise really early easily too! Aargh! I'll get my top up with her and see how it goes then think about going to someone else in the future.

I am always told for 48 hours before the appointment to avoid:
Anti –inflammatories e.g aspirin, ibuprofen
Alcohol
Garlic
Vitamin A,E
Exercise
Ginkgo biloba
This is to reduce bruising and bleeding. Also after Botox to take it easy.
I always follow the advice and very rarely have a tiny bruise on the crows feet area.

pharmachameleon · 31/05/2023 21:17

Interesting @Isabelle70. I use Hello Fresh and they have garlic in almost every meal so yes I'd have eaten garlic beforehand!
Also would have lifted weights on Thursday but I don't get hugely sweaty doing this so wonder if that would have caused it?? I didn't do any exercise for 2 days after.

The pain and level of bruising definitely depends on the skill of the practitioner ime. My current doctor is extremely gentle, never hurts and I never bruise, but have bruised badly with previous injectors.
If they are hurting you and you're bruising despite all the self care precautions I'd go elsewhere.

I’ve never had bruising. She does use an extremely fine needle and I just feel a tiny ‘pinch’.

jeaux90 · 31/05/2023 21:41

I've never bruised either. I find this really odd!

Jedstre · 31/05/2023 21:47

I just would not persist with someone so rough!

ellery · 31/05/2023 23:02

I've had one tiny bruise, once, with Botox injections.

Screamingabdabz · 31/05/2023 23:06

I’ve recently had Botox with a recently trained (non medical) 21 year old practitioner. No bruising at all. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I've been in your situation - lots of problem free botox sessions over the years followed by a particularly painful one that left me with sores and a horrible bruise. (Same clinic, new person.) I absolutely didn't and wouldn't accept it as a 'shit happens' thing and switched to a different practitioner.

This.

im an aesthetician and I have never had anyone bruise from Botox. It is possible, and doesn’t mean in most cases they have done a “bad job” however it also shouldn’t be painful so I would change to a different practitioner.

You’re brave, or foolish.
