Best Hair Products - naturally wavy/frizzy hair?

Pls recommend some good products to embrace my waves and prevent my bushy frizz! Ideally to apply and let dry naturally, but not leaving it looking crispy!

Thanks

Garnier leave in conditioners

WoolerOwl · 30/05/2023 14:43

I've tried so many things and I have similar hair.

Top tips:
Shampoo and conditioner - Herbal Essences coconut. There are more expensive things out there, and I do also use the Cantu Avocado leave in conditioner, but the Herbal Essences one is consistently good and not expensive.

For styling, first of all I use Design Essentials Natural Curl Enhancing Mousse, which leaves my curls in great condition and looking silky -- https://www.amazon.co.uk/Design-Essentials-990860-Natural-Enhancing/dp/B008074JOI/ref=asc_df_B008074JOI/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=313322780637&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=16884354189957726949&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9046009&hvtargid=pla-572202205572&psc=1

And then add something on top to hold the curl eg Davines Curl Building Serum. This really holds the curls without being crispy it dries firm, if you let it air dry, but isn't sticky or crunchy. You don't need to use much, so it lasts a long time.

For a refresher on subsequent days, I use a small amount of the Davines serum on dampened hair. If I could only have one product, this would be the one that I would choose.

I sometimes let my hair air dry, sometimes go to bed with it wet (wear a silk lined night cap), and in winter when it's cold use a diffuser (Bellissima Diffon) to dry it.

Another product worth knowing about is Sebastian Potion 9. It gives lovely soft non frizzy curls. Plus any cheap hair gel for hold.

Hope that helps! I grew up being told my hair looked a frizzy mess, so it has been a delight to discover that I actually have lovely curls. Hope you find what works for you.

I’m going to speak the one truth we all waves/curly people know:

We don’t know what are the best products for your hair, in fact,
we don’t even know what the right products for our own hair will be by next week as hair condition changes all the time.

It is all about finding the products that “agree” with your hair, it’s thickness, porosity and curl and this is done through a long time of trial and error (a very expensive experiment sometimes).

I suggest you join one of the many curly hair groups on Facebook, define what type of hair you have, practice the technique with basic inexpensive products and once you have worked the scrunching, plopping, drying, whatever techniques and now why your hair behaves like it does, then invest in most expensive products.

John Frieda 3 day straight works amazingly on my frizzy, wavy hair. I spray it on and leave it to dry naturally, and it defines my curls with much less frizz. Ignore the name, it's not just for straightening! I love abroad now, so I buy it in bulk whenever I visit the UK.

WhereAreWeNow · 30/05/2023 17:58

@ForTheSakeOfThePenguin speaks the truth.
My hair is frizziest if I treat it like straight hair and try to tame it with serums, straighteners etc. If I go with the curl, it's a lot less fluffy. Have a look at the many curly hair/curly girl threads on here for tips on how to do it. Basically, frizzy, fluffy, wavy hair (like mine) usually turns out to be curly hair that's just not being treated like curly hair.

Framboisery · 30/05/2023 21:42

I've found that a bare minimum of hairdryer use and a small amount of old fashioned John Frieda's frizz ease.
Mine goes much frizzier in winter and has been better in the recent warm weather.

This. Although identifying your curl type is a good starting point with what might work.
One of my DDs is a 3a and the other is a 3c. They require different quantities and types of products, and need to be handled and styled using different methods. It has taken an awful lot of trial and error to get to this point, including a complete rethink between baby hair to toddler hair and again going from toddler to child as the texture changed as they grew. I'm sure puberty will see more changes and a trip back to the drawing board...

Over the years I have used so many different products but what I use now is LOreal Elvive Dream Lengths Frizz Killer Serum £4 from B and M … even though my hair is short!

I am so impressed I have bought about six bottles of it!!

Agree with others though that what suits one person might not suit another!

bossybloss · 30/05/2023 23:20

Oh …. And I leave my hair curly even though this product is used for straightening I think!

EmmaChizzett · 31/05/2023 09:44

ForTheSakeOfThePenguin: how right you are!

I hate to think of the money I've wasted on products, recommended often here as the holy grail, which don't suit my hair at all.

Even in one make, one product is fine and another a disaster.

The main thing I've learned is to buy the smallest possible bottle!
