Not beautiful or stylish.... Sorry

I'm going on a walking holiday with some friends in a couple of weeks.

I'm really fussy about fabric on my legs (sensory issues) so I usually wear dresses.

When walk the dog i wear some old leggings, but i want something slightly more presentable for a group trip.

Can anyone recommend some suitable shorts or trousers that are very very soft and comfortable please?

M and S do good soft waterproof and hiking trousers. Start there and if it doesn’t work for you then craghopper or Patagonia (the latter a bit more $$). Decathlon is good for sheer range but there’s a lot to wade through.

Rainbows & Sprinkles (rubbish name but great product) do nice leggings that would be good for walking. Alternatively, I think your best bet is to go somewhere like Cotswold Outdoor, Decathlon or even Mountain Warehouse and just feel the fabrics. Some tech trousers can be quite "crunchy", IYSWIM.

Tryna Acai, their stuff is stretchy and comfortable, all outdoors focused

I was going to recommend Acai too.
Really good products.

loveacuddle1 · 28/05/2023 23:02

I also live Acai.
but leggings would be fine if you prefer those… I often hike in leggings - and loads of other women in them.
I have a really soft, light pair of north face Aphrodite trousers that feel gorgeous too. Enjoy your trip

I bought some Acai trousers as everyone on here is always raving about them but I've never found them comfortable to hike in at all. They make my legs sweat like anything. They were hugely expensive as well. Soft leggings suit me better for walking to be honest. or just the normal cottony type ones with lots of pockets from outdoor shops like mountain warehouse etc

RuffledKestrel · 28/05/2023 23:17

If you can get to a Go Outdoors they stock lots of different brands, so you could feel them all and see what you think.
I do have a dislike for certain fabric feels. Certain
Craghoopper trousers feel nice to me. Paramore is one of the few proper waterproof cloths I actually like the feel of.

Thank you so much for all your advice. Some great brands ideas. I will investigate.

Crunchy is the exact word @moggerhanger !

I’ve got both the açai thermal leggings and trousers. I bought them for a winter hiking trip in the Carpathian Mountains. Slightly prefer the leggings as comfier. I’ve not tried any of their summer walking gear though but very pleased with the winter items.

I find Regatta clothes very comfortable, robust and not too expensive.

Rumanavc · 01/04/2024 20:49

Don't worry about style, comfort is key when it comes to hiking outfit, right? Have you checked out any lightweight and soft hiking pants or shorts made from breathable materials? Brands often have options designed for both comfort and performance. It's all about finding what works best for you on the trails!

How about a walking skirt, if that’s what you usually prefer? Some of the outdoor brands have them in at the moment.
