Business casual

I'm attending a course next month, run by a local uni, and the dress code is 'business casual'. What on earth is business casual?

My work dress code is fairly loose- it says no jeans, no mini or maxi skirts/ dress, no shorts, no sandals or open toed shoes. So can wear practically anything from formal dresses to floaty midi dress so isn't any help. I normally wear knee length skater dresses n loafers.

Please can you help cos I'm out of ideas.

Thanks

Business casual to me is smart jeans (indigo or black, no rips) with a smart blouse or fitted top and blazer. It's harder when it's hot though as summer clothes are generally more casual. I would probably go for a dress and the ubiquitous white trainers.

Knee length skater dress and loafers will be absolutely fine for a business casual dress code.

in my experience, when at external courses where this code is cited, they are trying to say that it would not be appropriate to turn up in sportswear or beachwear but just about anything else goes. I’ve definitely seen people attend such things in jeans.

I wouldn't wear denim.

Silky top tucked into smart pants, leather flats should fit in with most groups.

And yes to white trainers if they're leather.

Thanks, that's helpful. My white trainers are converse not leather so maybe I'll stick with the loafers Smile

Business casual just means work clothes, no need for a suit. If you normally wear a dress and loafer, that’s totally fine.

I’d avoid denim and trainers because these can be a bit borderline. Often fine but if you’re not sure there are plenty of alternatives.
