Birkenstocks WTF? 😳

I was just wondering what colours Birkenstock are doing this year and had a quick look on their website. I’m sure they used to be about £60ish full price and I only ever bought them reduced/in the sale so usually pay much less. They are £90-£105 - massive price increase…why oh why?

I’ll grab them out the bag tomorrow 👌

@MsRinky those oxygen sandals look great, are they wide fitting like birkis? I can't tell from the pics if they are, or if they are narrower.

I sprained my foot last week during a hiit class and ignored it and unfortunately ignored and did stonework high impact exercise and made it worse. I will be living in my birkenstock Arizonas for the next few weeks. I honestly think they are the best sandals for comfort and I will replace when it's time. Whether you buy them cheaper or full price, they are worth every penny.
Would love a pair of Bostons now.

@Hawthornflowers I would say they are the same as regular width birkenstocks, as my feet have always been too wide for the narrow fit ones.

I bought a pair and found them hideously uncomfortable-they're not for everyone.

Agree with this. I'm determined to keep them because they were bloody expensive, but how anyone can walk miles in them I don't know - they are not my favourite shoes in my wardrobe by a long shot.

Persevere. I was exactly the same with my first pair. Last summer I walked round Seville in 40 degree heat for four days in mine, they’re the most comfortable sandals I own now.

I struggled with Birks. But I absolutely LOVE the Next versions. So comfortable and last years!

I took mine camping last year and they were a bit grubby. They cleaned up lovely!

(I ruined a pair of Birks by trying to clean them)

I have persevered - this is now my second year of owning them and I still find they’re like walking on bricks. Fine on short walks or pottering about the house but if I’m going to walk miles in shoes I want them to be comfortable from the first wear.

My Birkenstock Arizonas are just about to give up the ghost - I think they're 9 or 10 years old and have been worn to death, but they still look as good as new and are v comfy. I don't think I've got any other shoes that have lasted that long with regular wear, certainly not sandals. The cost per wear must be in the fraction of pennies, and I will be ordering a replacement pair asap.

My Madrids were on their last legs last spring and when I saw the price of a new pair I had a moan to my Mum. She said pretty much the same, she asked me how many years I had owned them, how many times I had worn them and how many miles I had walked in them and pointed out that on a cost per wear basis they were probably one of the best value items I had ever bought. I ordered a different pair and the old ones have limped on a little longer!

Incidentally I bought my first pair of Madrids about 11 years ago and that pair did eventually go in the bin but the replacement pair were worn today. So five or six years of fairly tough wear.

I got some for £65 from John Lewis. The Birko thingy ones that aren’t leather but they are basically the same from my point of view.

EasterIssland · 02/06/2023 23:53

I got my latest pair from tower London I think. Official website £75
tower London I think same ones 50.

The ones I like are £125!(bright red. Sorry but nope! )

@MsRinky Oxygen look nice. Would you say the arch support is as defined as Birkenstocks. I have a few Birkenstocks and a few similar cheaper types. I find the cheaper ones don't tend to have as robust an arch support. I have tried various from TK Maxx and I think Aldi (which were quite good).

Also would you say sizing is similar to Birkenstock

I bought a pair of Oxygen shoes and whilst I liked them they didn't give enough support. Back to Birkenstocks.
