Eucerin Cream

I wonder if any of you knowledgeable MN's can help. I suffer from PLE (polymorphous light eruption - not to be confused with prickly heat). Obviously if I stayed out of the sun for ever then the rash would probably not appear. However, I love my holidays and sun and wear a high factor sun cream which does help but I also tan easily. I am also careful to stay out of the midday sun. However, I have just read that Eucerin Cream (especially factor 50) has been specifically designed towards PLE. It is a little on the expensive side but I am quite happy to pay if it works, but have been let down so many times by misleading promises. Does anyone else suffer from this? Has anyone had any experience of using Eucerin Cream? If anyone has any helpful hints and tips then they would be more than welcome. Many thanks in advance to everyone

I don't have experience with eucerin as a suncream but I use Heliocare Advanced Spray Factor 50.

Yes! Me! I used to suffer terribly from PMLE - I’d erupt after fifteen minutes’ sun exposure, even slathered in generic Factor 50, but the Eucerin cream has seen it off. It really is effective. Shame it’s so expensive!

Thank you (and apologies for the delay in responding). I have never heard of that Spray but will take a look)

Thank you PaulaPennyfeather (and apologies for the delay in responding) - that is very reassuring because, as you say, it is expensive. I have ordered some and waiting for it to arrive (should be here today or tomorrow) but I did manage to buy the after-sun in Boots on Saturday, used that after being in the sun and was very impressed with it - it soaked straight in, not sticky at all, although when I first open the tube it looked very thick, so that's definitely a thumbs up. Fingers crossed I am as lucky as you with the Sun Cream.

Glad to have reassured you, and I hope it does the trick. Enjoy the sun!

Excuse the zombie thread revival..! I wondered if the OP found that this Eucerin cream helped PMLE? I’ve just been diagnosed😰😰😰

Morning @Sunshineloser . Yes it did help greatly. However, last year I used the Eucerin Oil Spray which I found much nicer, didn't feel anything on my skin and still did the job. Will definitely buy it again. However, having read up on other forums, I followed some further advice. Having showered first thing in the morning with Hibiscrub (an antiseptic wash), I then applied the spray. At lunchtime I did the same and reapplied the spray. Whilst this sounds like a nuisance and time consuming, it actually felt really nice to refresh at lunchtime with a nice cool (and quick) shower before reapplying the spray before going for lunch - and it only took minutes. That lasted me until we again showered (as above) before going out for dinner (and using the after sun cream).
I know that all sounds too much to be bothered with on holiday but I was able to stay out in the sun all day for 2 weeks without any problems - and the Eucerin Oil Spray was a factor 30 not 50. I was lucky enough to have 3 sun holidays last year and followed the above each time - and had no problems whatsoever. Unfortunately Eucerin products are expensive but so so worth it.
I hope that helps.

@Sunshineloser your post prompted me to get my supply for my holiday in June and there is such a rang of prices on the web. The cheapest I found was from The Pharmacy Club @ £13.87 each for 200ml. I bought two which I think I need for 2 weeks. There is a hefty delivery on this (£7.90) as I believe this company is in Spain, but its difficult to get the factor 30 Oil Spray in the UK for this price and I purchased my last lot from them also, so am confident in the company and the product. Hope that helps and hope I haven't broken any Mumsnet rules for giving you this information.

Thank you so much for replying after all this time 🥰

MissBridgetJones · 09/04/2024 12:05

Thank you so much for this thread! I have had many holidays that have been miserable due to PLE

I found Vichy sun protection water for sensitive skin good too

Jogreen · 01/07/2025 10:04

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, I also struggle with PLE and am still trying to find something that works. Is the Eucerin spray the oil control one? I couldn’t find an actual oil spray. Many thanks.
