DIY balayage at home

Has anyone done a DIY balayage home colour?

My hair is well overdue a cut and colour but it was £130 last time and we are trying save a bit of money. I was considering doing some home colour but not sure if it's just going to look totally rubbish...

I used to home colour all the time as a teen/student, quite often a bit bold and/or disastrous, but that was 20 years ago!

There is a huge difference between colouring hair at home and doing a balayage at home! Balayage is less about the actual dye/colour and more about the skill and techniques used by the hairdresser to apply those colours.

I'm more than happy to colour my own hair and even bleach my own hair (which can be tricky without proper research first and a second pair of hands). There is not a chance in hell I would try something as technical as highlights, ombre or balayage at home!

😂 yes that's unfortunately what I was wondering... I considered trying to rope my DH in and then blame him when it inevitably looked terrible 😁

Honestly I wouldn't attempt a DIY balayage. As pp said it's all about the technique and has potential to be disastrous.

I would consider other options such as:
A) going to s student stylist at your local hair college
B) doing an at home all over colour
C) cut back on the service eg. No olaplex etc

I get my DH to help with my hair at the back and it actually looks good! He's secretly quite proud of being able to it! But I still wouldn't trust him with a balayage!

In all seriousness, if you are planning on doing an all over colour at home, do you research first! If you've had a balayage and I'm presuming bleach on the ends of your hair, that will effect how another colour takes and lasts on the hair. The most important thing is DO NOT bleach over hair that has already been bleached/lightened/permed.
