Fake tan, easy, natural looking for very white legs

MrsFunnyFace · 24/05/2023 21:42

in all my life I’ve never used fake tan and today it occurred to me, I should because I hate my legs and this is because they are white (pale pink as my dd says 😂)

any recommendations for light skin, newbie fake tanner and easy to use

As a fellow pink-legger I advise you to love them!

Seriously, just get them out.

I think texture matters rather than colour.

So, if you're bothered, exfoliate and moisturise.

Celebrate the pale legs, and make them as good as they can be.

I'm a seasoned fake tanner. My advice would be to buy a product with a guide colour so that you can see where you're putting it while you perfect the technique. A good exfoliation. I only moisturise my ankles, elbows and knees. Do this a couple of hours before application. A good mitt (wearing latex gloves). I like St Moritz personally and they do a light colour. I have a kabuki brush for blending hands and feet. I use tanning drops in moisturiser for my face. I can do my whole bod in five minutes now.

You could try a gradual tanner and if you do, my advice would be to slap it on to avoid streaks. I have pjs for tanning purposes and shower off in the morning. Honestly it's fine once you know what you're doing.

Bondi sands liquid gold is the best I've tried, I've tried just about all the high street brands in the uk. It's goes on with a very very light guide colour, it's gradual which always makes tan come out less streaky and more natural looking. As above, apply with a bondi sands mitt (they're softer so glide over the skin better) after exfoliating. No moisturiser before hand, buy a huge soft round make up brush to blend hands, feet, chest, knees, neck, elbows. Use a face tan that you mix with your own moisturiser like tan luxe- the face drops. This is also gradual and v natural

Don't just do your legs, you'll look silly!

noodlezoodle · 24/05/2023 22:03

I know you asked about fake tan, but if you just want them a bit browner for the day, the Sally Hansen airbrush legs is surprisingly good and doesn't shift. It looks a bit alarming when you first apply it but as soon as you rub it in it looks great, and if you make a mistake you can just wash it off again.

Blinky21 · 24/05/2023 22:03

Bondi sands gradual tanner!

RedRosie · 24/05/2023 22:04

I'm with @Hal9001

Embrace the pale!

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 24/05/2023 22:05

If you have very pale skin that you want to show off in the sun to its best advantage use a moisturiser with light reflecting particles in. It adds a gorgeous luminescence/ sheen but not necessarily a darker colour. If I have to get my legs out when I haven't tanned that's what I use. Or you can just mix some liquid highlighter into any body lotion.

If you want to try fake tan, I second the St Moritz one. Get the one you can wash off after an hour. And get some scrubby gloves. Use the day before tanning and also when your tan is starting to come off they help make it come off evenly.

I’m loving Dove light to medium, subtle and sun kissed.

CindersAgain · 24/05/2023 22:07

There are many more people going out pale legged than there used to be.

But if you really want to tan a bit, I find the most idiot proof way is to use a wash off one. I use this Rimmel one, mixed with body lotion just to take the edge off.

st moritz gives you a guide colour exfoliate and moisturise knees ankles and elbows. I only use it in summer when it’s going to be hot and I want to wear shorts so haven’t tried many other brands but it’s cheap and works well for me

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 24/05/2023 22:13

Ahh sunshimmer! Its a classic! I went through heaps of that as a teenager! Now that would work amazing mixed in with the dove moisturiser I linked!

Also, op, if you are getting your legs out pale then wearing the colours that suit you help.

The right colour clothing enhances and brightens your skin tone. You can do quizzes online to see your best colours.

bert3400 · 24/05/2023 22:14

I've very pale white legs thanks to my Irish genes ...I swear by St Tropez Water Purity Gel. Never have to moisturise or exfoliate. It goes on clear with a mitt, smells nice and 3 hours later you have nicely coloured legs that last for 10 days ... honestly it's the best fake tan on the market

FusionChefGeoff · 24/05/2023 22:32

I love Dove body gradual tanner - none of that exfoliating / moisturising / mits palaver.

Dollop on and rub in after every shower and bath. Easy

Yes I’ve used that for years and it really is good and easy to use

Londoncatshed · 24/05/2023 22:42

Skinny Tan gradual tan in light is very good for pale skin but I agree with others, just to embrace the pale skin. I think it helps if skin is well moisture etc. I’m currently trying to find an spf that has light reflecting particles as @Wavescrashingonthebeach mentioned in a moisturiser.
I still use Rimmel for was off tan, it’s completely transfer proof, not like the cult beauty product, This Works Sun Shimmer, that rubs off on everything and cost £40!

Utterlypeanuterly · 24/05/2023 23:20

I've never been bothered about fake tanning. I'm naturally lightly tanned but my legs just don't match the rest of me. I now use This Works Perfect Legs. It's amazing. It's a tinted lotion. It makes my legs look like they belong with the rest of my body and it has really helped the overall look and feel of the skin on my legs. It's expensive but a bottle lasts a long time.

I bought this recently and it's pretty good, easy to use and gives a nice colour without being too orangey or weird - but just be warned the smell is quite strong and not very pleasant.

sadtoday1 · 24/05/2023 23:34

I’ve tried a few including St Tropez and Skinny Tan

the best, and hassle free, is the Dove mousse. It’s half price in Boots just now. About £4! It’s really easy to massage in and doesn’t go streaky.

TheFormidableMrsC · 24/05/2023 23:37

I prefer to be tanned but it's important to say I can't get a natural tan, have never been able to and have no desire to sit trying. It's annoying as my Irish Dad goes conker coloured after five mins in direct sunlight. I'm dark haired and yellow toned skin but it doesn't happen for me! So I shall fake tan forever probably. My daughter, however, has perfect, blemish free porcelain skin and it wouldn't occur to her to tan. She carries it off very well and I'm envious. For me having a tan makes me feel better and look a little slimmer. I just prefer it.

I use this it's just right and looks really natural . I always fake it. The sun is so damaging .

I second the Dove gradual tanner, light to medium and I am a redhead so my legs are a freckly blueish-grey after the winter. That or the cheap £2.99 mousse from B&M applied with a mitt.

Iknowthis1 · 24/05/2023 23:52

Another vote for Dove. It's pretty much fool proof.

Any top tips on using this? I just bought the fair to medium today but am a bit scared after previous tanning disasters. Never used a gradual tan though. Is it foolproof?
