Botox

Hi,

I've had Botox twice... but I'm looking for advice on how to find an affordable (I appreciate that is subjective) and effective practitioner.

First place I went for botox - the results were brilliant (initial effect and how well it lasted), but the price was quite high. I paid £395 for three areas. The cost for two areas (which is what I would have going forward as I was kind of talked into the third and in hindsight it wasn't necessary) is £300. I didn't bother going back for the free top up as I was so pleased with the results.

Second place the price was more affordable for me - £180 for two areas. But the results were pretty disappointing. The initial freeze was less than I had hoped (even after the top up) and wore off incredibly quickly. This clinic was recommended by a friend, so I had high hopes.

I'd really like to continue with botox, but since my second experience I've been put off trying elsewhere as I don't want to have a similar experience again and to effectively waste money on an ineffective treatment.

And while I could just go back to the first clinic, being realistic I'm unlikely to be able to afford £300 every ~3 months to keep it topped up.

I'm wondering if it's just a case of "you get what you pay for" or if I've just been unlucky with the second place I visited?

Would be interested in what others pay and how you went about finding someone? Or any key questions I need to ask in future to ensure I'm getting what I want?

I pay £450 for 3 areas. I only get it every 5 months or so.

My experience has been that people that work in an aesthetic clinic do a better job than freelancers in beauty salons or parties etc. Regardless of what they say about their qualifications etc.
Like you my first experience was amazing. In a clinic one area lasted 6 months. Went again but after Covid it all got expensive. I then went to my friends lady to save money. She was apparently Harley Street and only charged £80 for one area. Was rubbish ( although she had plenty of repeat customers so maybe just my face)
Now I go to my local salon. £220 one area and £300 for three areas. Had the three areas done and was worth it but back to one as I’m poor.

Cheap Botox is never good Botox

I get my number 11s done. I’ve been to a high end place and a couple of Therapie places in London, one costing £230 and the other £130 and I wouldn’t have said there’s much difference.

You get what you pay for. A qualified doctor or dentist giving Botox will cost a lot more than a practicing nurse or aesthetician but (generally) will give better results.

I've never paid more than £150 and it's always been great, apart from once. I paid a lot more for a very well respected and sought after doctor in Cheshire and I felt like I had concrete in my forehead for 3 months.

Whereabouts are you op? I know someone excellent near Preston who is very reasonably priced.

ILoveMyBedTooMuch · 24/05/2023 09:47

I pay just less than 300 for Botox which lasts me 5- 6 months with a consultant dermatologist/surgeon. I had to go to a dentist though as he was on sabbatical and it was not as good. It cost more too. In SE of England.

Mine doesn't cost much more and it's great. Lasts for up to 6 months.

I really think it depends where you live. I'm in Scotland and pay around £160 for two areas from dentist, doctor or nurse with the same effect each time.

Orangesandlemons82 · 12/06/2023 12:15

I have ended up going back to the first clinic that I went to. They are the most expensive, but do seem to give the best results and it does last 5 to 6 months. I'm not sure if the results are best because they spend longer marking my face up or if it is the product.
Sorry that's no help!

Delatron · 12/06/2023 13:54

It’s far more expensive in the SE so I wouldn’t expect to pay less that around £300 (once I paid £600!) for 3 areas. That’s for a doctor.

My solution is just to have it less often. So every 6 months even though it wears off around the 3-4 month time. Helps me keep a sense of perspective with my face too. It doesn’t look good on me if I have it too frequently.
