having mole removed, any tips for reducing scarring?

Not sure if this should be in health or S&B. I have to have a large mole removed from my neck in a couple of weeks and wonder if there are any ways to reduce scarring: products and how to use them. I've seen hydrocolloid, hydrogel and silicone plasters/ointments but not sure where to start.

I had a few removed and used Dermatix which was brilliant. Can barely see anything a year on.
do make sure the healing goes properly though before you put creams on.

Thank you - aha so I don't start putting anything on until it's healed?
I'll get some dermatix. The mole in question is front and centre on my throat so it's good to know the scars can be managed.

#I just had a mole removed from my chin. There was no scarring at all..you'd never know it had been there.

Ask the surgeon what s/he recommends? Healing is also improved by not drinking/smoking if you do.

thank you @beguilingeyes and @crosstalk sounds hopeful. I will ask the surgeon on the day (I was referred by a dermatologist so not entirely sure who I am getting). Luckily I don't drink or smoke, will try to generally eat more veg before the day as well.

My ds has surgical scarring on his face. The plastic surgeon said it's the massaging action which is the important bit to reduce scar tissue, it's less important what product you use.

thank you that's interesting, I am bad at prioritising self care so will make a note to do that regularly.
