Confused style

I’d like my style to have a bit of continuity, if that makes any sense at all(!) - I guess it’s about buying pieces, for example, handbags, that go with everything. The problem is that I’m drawn to patterned, statement-style pieces that they only go with a few outfits. I have so many clothes but I want to simplify my wardrobe so that more things go together. I don’t think I could go capsule but could someone advise me on how to choose things, i.e. so I have one fab blouse instead of fifteen? TIA. 😊😳

Gentle bump in case this gets lost. 🤞🏼

I feel this! I decided a few years ago to try to streamline my wardrobe because I’m drawn to bright colours and busy patterns. What works for me is to have four or five pairs of jeans or tailored trousers in neutral colours that I can wear with my loud tops/shirts/blouses. And a few fairly plain tops that I can wear with patterned skirts and trousers. I’m working on letting a statement be a statement instead of a discussion!

Oh, and (for me at least) shoes count as a statement. So if I’m wearing red heeled Mary Janes the rest of the outfit is fairly neutral.

It sounds like you don’t want to get rid of any of your clothes, so maybe plan what you need to buy over the next few months to introduce some staples that go with everything, e.g. tailored trousers in a neutral colour in a cut that suits you (or jeans, or skirts).

I was like this too. Buying lots of colours and patterns. Had loads of clothes but nothing to wear. A couple of years ago had a huge clear out and started buying better quality clothes in natural fabrics without patterns. It’s been a revelation. I feel I can walk into a clothes shop now and see past the noise and junk and mostly leave with nothing! But what I do buy I wear and like and keep for a long time. I’m annoyed with myself that I spent so many years and so much money buying plastic rubbish, but then again would have been difficult to do when I was younger. I called it the polyester purge. Refuse to buy it now. Maybe start by buying one simple good quality t shirt to replace one polyester blouse.
