Help me find the holy grail of trainers

I am SO FED UP of sore feet. I used to walk everywhere and struggling now, which has led to weight gain, which makes it even more difficult. I have very wide feet, bunions and tailors bunions, plantar fasciitis and have had capsulitis. I need arch support and a sole that is relatively inflexible, but the shoes themselves need to be soft. They also need to be low cut at the back as I find lots are too high and rub my heels. I just want an everyday trainer I can wear with jeans/dresses etc.

I have brooks ghost and these work but I alway feel a bit short in the toe area even though I’ve gone up a size so they slip at the back if I don’t lace them tightly. Allbirds are good, but too high at the back. Skechers are comfy but not supportive enough so I get ankle pain. Asics are too narrow and cause me pain across the instep.

can anyone suggest anything, please??

Another thought, I also have some Puma runners that are supposedly designed specifically for women rather than a scaled down men’s shoe. They are XX Nitro. They have a wider toe box and and narrower heel, they are very cushioned but are a stability trainer. Too stable for me so I use for walking

I have terrible feet and find it hard to find comfy trainers, but I don't care what they look like tbh. I recently bought asics novablast 3 trainers and I love them, I feel like I am walking on cushions. They come in lots of different colours too.

My mum swears by gabor- something like this?

I found this at John Lewis & Partners. What do you think? https://www.johnlewis.com/gabor-fairway-wide-fit-leather-trainers-white-silver/p109762857?tmad=c&tmcampid=7&sshare=jlappioss_Y29tLmFwcGxlLlVJS2l0LmFjdGl2aXR5LkNvcHlUb1Bhc3RlYm9hcmQ=

Fitflop trainers. I have crippling plantar fasciitis in one foot and these are the only ones I’ve found that mean I can walk a long way without pain. I have the Fitflop boots too and I also find them too narrow but the trainers are much wider and much comfier. Hope this helps x

minipie · 20/05/2023 23:05

If you try New Balance get the 574 style. The ones starting with 3 are narrow.

LondonLovie · 20/05/2023 23:05

Have you looked at Barefoot shoes? You'd need to add arch support

Fozzleyplum · 20/05/2023 23:16

There are a few German makes that suit "difficult" feet. Hassia and Wauldlaufer are two of them. There are lots on this site:https://www.peterhahn.co.uk/waldlaeufer-sneakers-haiba-sand-light-gold-301168.html

CatsForLife · 21/05/2023 05:56

@AnalLysis No, Oofos do shoes too. They spoil you for other footwear though. So comfortable.

AnalLysis · 20/05/2023 22:05

@MissLucyEyelesbarrow no, to be fair I haven’t done that. I think I’d find it a bit intimidating (I’m not in great shape) but maybe I need to get over that

I get that - I'm no runner, either! But there are some lovely small, independent shops, which are not at all intimidating.

AnalLysis · 21/05/2023 10:03

Thank you everyone, I went off to bed last night so missed last few messages. Lots to check out on here. Good to know about fitflop trainers being wider. Barefoot shoes - podiatrist told me no! I need to stable sole with the cushioning of an insole.

@Fozzleyplum those german trainers look good - I wonder if German people have naturally wider feet, all the best brands seem to be German!

@AnalLysis just wondering if you managed to find the holy grail of trainer in the end? I have what sounds like very similar feet to you (plus OA in the big toe joint) and am so sick of being in pain. I also have v wide feet due to the bunions so have already ruled out some of the shoes suggested on here.

Also - and off topic - how did you get rid of the capsulitis in the end?

DontEatCrisps · 19/07/2023 16:25

327s are great for wide feet.
