Summer work shoes for the dreaded plantar fasciitis

My plantar fasciitis has really flared up after wearing some flat summery shoes the other weekend so Birkies are the only comfortable footwear right now.

The trouble is I should only be wearing "covered" footwear at work. The rest of the year I wear ankle boots or flatform type brogues with a heel cup/support thing in which works well but these are just too hot in the summer!

What shoes are out there to wear with summer office/work wear (smartish cropped trousers, knee length skirts etc)? Shoes that are not too flat, not too frumpy. Or maybe shoes that the heel cup might still fit in.

Also, I find those little hidden socklet things never stay on my feet and end up bunched under my foot which is a PITA

@Soundbathfan NHS... I had to try Physion first before the podiatrist.

Bizarrely, my foot in quite painful today. I never understand why.

Have you tried the Rathleff protocol? It is a programme of incresed load on the foot. Have a google.

I went into town yesterday (quite a small city so not a huge selection of shops) and it made me realise how crap shoe shopping is these days as shops seem to stock very little and you have to rely on online shopping which is no good when you want to try them on and check if they have arch support etc.

I've also found myself looking at everyones shoes so, if I see some I like that I think might work, I'll just go and ask the wearer where they're from! 😆

I got insoles from NHS podiatry which has helped. Daily stretches of calf also help. If I neglect the stretches and do a good bit of walking I can feel it coming back.
Also I found a boot on Amazon to keep you foot in the correct position at night made a big difference when it was bad - now I just wear it every night as a preventative. took a few nights to get used to it…
My pf came on after pregnancy so maybe it is hormonal related…

Hi, I'm pregnant and in agony just now! Don't suppose you happen to have a link to the boot and the calf stretches? I really need to get into a routine

For a short fix to PF pain then most wedge shoes should ease it. Juva trainers with podiatry insoles really helped and Vionic slippers and shoes.

you can also get tens pens and spiked balls.

Try picking up stones or marbles and placing into a container x 10 to 15 times. Stand on a stair and lower your sort of middle foot down and then raise up again. What you basically want to do is loosen the tight muscles in your calf which cause PF to take hold. Another exercise is rolling a rolled up towel with your feet or using a rolling pin to do this.

Good footwear is key but PF does ease off and go after approx 1 year to 18 months.

Having thought this over a wedge shoe would be good preferably with an ankle strap.

Primark do a lacy footsie sock. They are amazing and the only ones I've used that stay on

@Soundbathfan I have a night splint from Amazon similar to this. I highly recommend getting one.
