Trouser/short options for DD (11) now that leggings don't fit?

SleepyRooster · 20/05/2023 11:49

My DD has always been in leggings or shorts - sometimes jeans - at the weekend. Now her shape is changing a bit, the leggings don't fit.
Any suggestions for brands/types of garment that might be comfortable, stylish, and be age appropriate (ie not bum-enhancing leggings, mini cut-offs etc). That won't cost a bomb (ie more than £50), as she's growing so quickly.

She quite likes the wide-legged linen trousers that Zara kids sell, for instance. Unisex style rather than frou-frou.
She's happy for me to buy for her though.

Thanks!

You can't find leggings that fit an 11 year old?? Leggings are made for all ages and sizes. I've just put 'women's leggings' in Amazon and loads of pairs came up for a tenner.

SleepyRooster · 20/05/2023 11:57

Ah well that's the thing- the kids ones (say age 10, M&S or whatever) fall down, as she's got a bum now. The women's ones will be too big in the hip, or cost loads, or bum-enhance. Also, she's not actually a women's dress size yet, if that makes sense?
It's this betweeny stage I'm trying to help with.

River Island’s smallest size in leggings are the same size in the hip for women’s 6/8 and girls’ 13/14 so even though she isn’t in the smallest women’s size yet so maybe try them.

Loverofoxbowlakes · 20/05/2023 12:13

Primark sell ladies leggings from size 4. My dd is teeny at 15 and has been wearing primark leggings for years.

See if you can get supermarket sizes, sometimes they go up to age 14?

Orchidflower1 · 20/05/2023 12:13

Is it that you CAN’T find any op or that you don’t WANT to?

If it’s the former, NEXT, H&M and primark have loads in teen /tween sizes.

If it’s the latter, can I ask why that is?

Thinkwicebeforeyouleavemylife · 20/05/2023 12:16

Morrisons sell leggings for a fiver ? Of course they'll fit. Just get size 6.

mybestchildismycat · 20/05/2023 12:25

Most of DD(13)'s clothes come from H&M whose tween/teen range goes up to a 14+ size. I've found that their teen range isn't widely stocked in store but there are a gazillion options for jeans, trousers, leggings etc online.

Cannot imagine spending even half of £50 on leggings for an 11 year old!

redskylight · 20/05/2023 13:08

This (getting clothes to fix for a developing girl) will become a more general problem soon. I recommend H&M and New Look for good "teen" ranges that bridge the gap between girl's and women's clothing. Primark also good as they tend to offer a range of sizes.
Alternatively you need to look at small sizes in women's clothes (not always easy to find). or sometimes a bigger child size (like 13/14 or 15/16 might work but you'll probably have to shorten them.

hazelnutlatte · 20/05/2023 13:10

Have you tried new look 9-15 range? Loads of leggings, also joggers and other casual trousers

Rummikub · 20/05/2023 13:13

New look and primark.

Also joggers are a good option

SleepyRooster · 20/05/2023 14:36

Thanks, for the tips. I'll try New Look & H+M.
I hardly buy any new clothes for myself these days so am really unfamiliar with high st options. Zara kids I did find by accident recently. DD is my eldest and we've relied on hand-me-downs from cousins to this point, plus M&S kids ranges.
Obvious adult clothes are a jump up in price due to VAT so would slightly prefer "age 11-13" ranges .. if such a thing exists ...

DD wears Primark leggings. The 'cosy' ones are not see through. She wore them since she was about 9/10

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 20/05/2023 14:52

DD is 9 and currently wearing age 11-12 leggings because she just won't stop getting taller (grew half an inch in the last week), makes trousers difficult because they need to be long but not big on the waist or baggy on the calf.

Primark and sainsburys leggings work for her.

Otherwise the current trend seems to be baggy joggers style trousers, like the old shell suit bottoms.

Rummikub · 20/05/2023 15:58

New look do a 9-15 range.
Asda George also have up to age 15 in some ranges.

thebestbirtheraccordingtoDD · 20/05/2023 17:38

My DD 11 wears Primark xs leggings. They're fine. She's a typical 11 year old shape.

Passthecake30 · 20/05/2023 17:41

My dd wears the leggings from the teen section in Matalan (age 14) and also joggers and shorts from the ladies section in new look (size small). Tshirts she wears the XS ladies in Primark at £3 each.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 20/05/2023 17:42

H&M has a great teen range. You won’t pay more buying women’s sizes despite the VAT, size 4 and 6 are always reduced. Primark does tiny ladies sizes

SpringBunnies · 20/05/2023 17:43

Want to say my 12yo lives in leggings and I buy her clothes from H&M online. Seems it’s popular with tween/teen mums here. There are lots of options and DD likes both flared and straight legged ones.

thecathasbeenfed · 20/05/2023 18:17

Adult leggings will probably be cheaper than children's trousers if cost is the issue.

xyzandabc · 20/05/2023 18:24

I'm confused. You say age 10 fall down because she now has a bum. Surely if they're falling down, you needed a smaller size but if her bum is more curvy than before then you'd need a bigger size.

Either way there are leggings out there to fit newborn to old age. Just try a few different brands/sizes until you find one that works. Assuming she wants to wear leggings.

mafsfan · 20/05/2023 19:35

Wide trousers

H&M has loads of trousers and leggings for 9-14

lovecafeaulait · 20/05/2023 21:04

DD similar age lives in her cargo pants bought from Zara last month. https://www.zara.com/gb/en/share/-p09632608.html?v1=270242179&utmcampaign=productShare&utmmmedium=mobilesharinggiOS&utmsource=reddsocialmovil
Also loves her denim skort. https://www.zara.com/gb/en/share/-p04743601.html?v1=222683439&utmcampaign=productShare&utmmmedium=mobilesharinggiOS&utmsource=reddsocialmovil

Have bought several denim shorts both from Zara and H&M in the last few years that have lasted very well.

lovecafeaulait · 20/05/2023 21:11

Sorry, I just read again that she doesn't want jeans and shorts any more.
DD prefers joggers at this stage to leggings, she feels they are more cool I think (?!) . Anyway bought these at JL and they are very nice and comfy. Also 100% cotton.
