Late September wedding, Aunt of the Bride

I'm stuck between these three, and then how to style then. Registry office wedding, restaurant meal then party.
I'm size 22 so appreciate it's harder to make it look good, and I have fish ankles so can't do heels, the pink show also comes in navy and will probably be my blue option.

Any ideas? Are they all terrible and I'll just look a state?

Forgot Marina Rinaldi!

This looks more casual - but it’s such a beautiful simple cut and hangs so well it could look excellent dressed up with jewellery and your smartest accessories.

This skirt might look very celebratory with a silk blouse or a loose jacket:

This is the prettiest thing I’ve seen. It’s in their Formal Wear section and the price is horrendous - but it might well go into the sales.

Not the stewpot dress. It doesn’t fit properly nor flatter you. It looks like a nightie. I like the floral/ navy one as the diagonal cut seems to take away from your breadth. The long sleeves are more elegant than no sleeves for you.

DollyParkin · 19/05/2023 06:45

“Stewpot”???? I’m sure I wrote “strappy”!!

My phone hates me.

Whataretheodds · 19/05/2023 06:48

I disagree about the 1st one - safe, not flattering.

2nd one is great on you! I don't think it's too fussy. The trend for formal wear at the moment is romantic and flouncy. You do have to watch those at the sink, though.

Bra fitting is good advice.

And absolutely you deserve something that you feel great in.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/05/2023 07:22

You’re really not ‘Too fat for a nice dress’ but I don’t think any of the three are nice dresses, sorry. The first would be okay for a barbecue/lunch out etc. The third looking like a beach dress. The second is just not nice.

The green ‘dismissed’ one is lovely. I think you need to look for something with sleeves and some shape at the waist.

DollyParkin · 19/05/2023 07:48

Tailoring, fit, and quality of fabric is the way to go - not loose polyester ... But you may have to spend. What about a dress maker? You could choose a quality fabric, and have it fitted properly.

Smallyellowbird · 19/05/2023 08:03

I like the blue floral one, but I'd take the frill off the sleeve - I think it's just a bit too much, a 3/4 length sleeve would be much nicer.

Candleabra · 19/05/2023 08:11

I like the blue floral one too. The berry dress is a close second.

Have you looked at Scarlett & Jo dresses @Caszekey? 😊
I’m the same size as you and wore one (the one in the pic) for a wedding in October and it’s the first time I’ve ever felt “nice” in a dress and not just like I was making do with what fits! I got so many compliments on the day! I’ve got another wedding at the end of the summer and already have another one lined up.

Next and John Lewis both stock them online too and quite often have bits in the sale.

Out of my price range, but like the style, I'll try Vinted. Thnaks

This was the one I mentioned last night. Obv the issue is it's v low cut in the front and most G+ bras aren't (it it needs a bloody good iron!)

Budget isn't huge, I'm working on a WC carers bank balance but will check out Vinted for some of these designers too

The first one is nice but not suitable for a wedding. You could do a lot better. I'm the same size as you and always fine appropriate clothes I'm very happy with.

CountryCousin · 19/05/2023 13:17

If you’ll forgive another interjection - looking at the full length photo of the purple wrap over dress, I’d say it has the least flattering sleeve length of those you’ve shown. Combined with the high waistband they create a line across the body and give the impression of width. (As if your arms are part of your ribcage.) Both the sleeveless and long sleeved dresses look better, for that reason.

(But yes, there are sure to be examples of all the brands I linked on Vinted or eBay.)

AnotherDayAnotherUsernameForMe · 19/05/2023 13:44

I would wear the purple pleated one and invest in light control pants and a better bra for shape. You could have a modesty panel sewn in too. I am a GG cup and find a good bra goes a long way!

AnotherDayAnotherUsernameForMe · 19/05/2023 13:46

I would have the sleeve altered and use that to create a modesty panel if needed. You need a bra that pulls your boobs in at the sides, less matronly.

Yes I'm between bras atm 😄 I need a decent one but really need to go somewhere to get fitted properly, boob to busy online measurement is usually OK but it's a bit wonky (gave me two different sizes cos I'm a 22). Anywhere you recommend? That one is a 38 JJ but it's actually a bit tight about the middle, it nerds a40 back

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 19/05/2023 13:57

I quite like the second one OP

Hazelnuttella · 19/05/2023 14:01

I like the fussy blue one! Think it suits you and if you love it you’ll feel good in it.

Strappy and berry ones look a bit more causal/holiday dresses.

HermioneWeasley · 19/05/2023 14:03

Of the options, the latest purple pleated one is by far the best. Wear a camisole underneath or put a few stitches in if it’s gaping/too low.

the sandals you’re wearing are too casual - lots of better options which are flat and comfortable.

Ihaveamagicwand · 19/05/2023 14:18

Being a large lady myself, I would go for the print dress in a heartbeat. The strong diagonal of the drapey wrap really does your figure justice and the print is extremely attractive.

Can’t believe some of the alternative suggestions for you being made here, shiny fabrics, strong horizontal lines, etc! Don’t do the shiny pleats!!

@Caszekey Definitely worth a try on Vinted. Next also have quite a few styles in their clearance section online starting at £35/40 if that works better for your budget 😊 hope you find something that you love!
