If you were going to give yourself a home spa day, what would you do?

Been thinking about this and all I can think of is a sheet mask and an exfoliating body scrub, wondered if anyone has an ideas as to how to create a relaxing, indulgent spa day at home?

Bumping, cos no one replied!😂 And yes I have Google d it, but I always find Mumsnetters' ideas way better, and more inventive than magazines that are just trying to push products...

Give yourself a pedicure (get the washing up bowl out to soak your feet lol), steam your face, do a deep conditioning mask on your hair.
Drink from a fancy glass with fruit/cucumber in your water. Pre-prepare a bento box style lunch and eat it in your robe whilst you read a magazine at lunchtime.
Enjoy it! X

Facial with all the money saved on not visiting actual spa. As in, spend money on products. Set them all out and slather, rinse etc in sequence. Also a diffuser for smells and a generic spa playing on YouTube. You're making me want a spa night now.

Oooh good question. I’ve actually been pondering this lately as I’ve been contemplating doing a DIY ‘spa Sunday’ once or twice a month. I’m gonna write out a full routine and post it so I can follow it myself in the coming weeks! I’ll be back OP!

Those feet mask socks that make your feet peel about a week later so you have baby soft feet.
Really nice luxury soft drink like Shloer.
A mani and pedi in lovely summer colours like coral.
Fake tan, if appropriate, even if only on face as I find ( on me who is deathly pale ) it makes me look refreshed.
Dry body brushing ( I bought a brush off Amazon and it is really good )
Hopefully if you buy products to use on the spa day then you can enjoy a regular spa saturday/sunday top up weekly.
I enjoy an Ole Henriksen Phat glow facial mask after a hairwash weekly ( bought from Boots during £10 Tuesday promotion )
Hope you have a lovely day

Ah I love doing this! I steam my face (I use the washing up bowl!) Then mask - depending on skin type - exfoliate, cleanse, tone, moisturise. Use loads of clean, warm face cloths to pat. My personal favourite is elemis - boots sell small ones, they have loads of premium mini products. I then Soak my hands, moisturise and use that remove ridges, buff, shine nail board. Cuticle oil at the end. Soak feet, slather on aqueous cream and wrap in cling film. Leave while I drink iced water with cucumber or other fruit. Then wash off and do a pedicure with a bright gel nail polish. I use to do this as a teenager and only recently remembered how much I enjoyed doing this - I do it twice a month now!

I would not set an alarm and have not drunk any alcohol the night before, so I wake rested and refreshed. I'd have a cup of tea and read the news. Then an hour of Pilates, then a deep bubble bath with a mud face mask on and shave and nice body exfoliant. Then fake tan and a lovely face oil massaged in, followed by a rich moisturiser and no makeup for a change. Downstairs for a chicken Caesar salad (I know it's not the healthiest but I love it) in a big fluffy dressing gown, then a home pedi in front of some suitably cheesy chick flick. Soak feet in washing up bowl, scrub with a nice foot scrub, then dry and use a stone thingy to go over my heels really well. Massage lotion over feet avoiding nails. Polish toes in a lovely bright coral. In this fantasy I would then put on a cashmere onesie and just rest and read! And crack open a bottle of fizz late afternoon, and book a solo week in the sun after one too many glasses.

The house would be empty for this duration. With no children or husband.

Sit in the garden and read with wine and snacks or afternoon tea.

All the other stuff sounds bit too much like hard work to me.

Onekidnoclue · 22/05/2023 10:28

totally stealing everyone’s ideas 😂
my only tip is to put on plinky plonky spa music and don’t use the “big lights” just side lights or candles to add to the relaxing feel.

I tend to do a basic version of this most Sundays as a bit of a reset for the week ahead. My routine is:

Remove nail/toe polish. File feet with grater thing. Redo toe polish

Bubble bath with Epsom salts. In the bath I do exfoliating with scubby mitt thing, then shave. I tend to bring in my Kindle or a magazine, and also listen to a show I subscribe to on Patreon. I have a couple of YouTube vloggers who upload on a Sunday so might watch those too. Face mask depending on how my skin is behaving

Shower and wash hair

Body lotion or at this time of year gradual tan lotion

Usual skincare, get into fresh pjs

Go back in on feet with grater, apply handcream to them, put on cosy socks

Paint fingernails

I always sort out my Monday morning stuff, hang my outfit in the bathroom etc. Should do better at getting an early night, but baby steps!

Get one of those small bottles of champagne, start with a relaxing bath whilst drinking the champagne - you won't be drunk but will have a little buzz.

Nice breakfast of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs then a facemask. If your hair isn't dry then blow dry it or try a new style.

Pedicure, then manicure.

HourglassTigger · 22/05/2023 11:59

Advance Prep: House clean, pressing matters dealt with - to allow total relaxation.
Bed and bathroom immaculate & dressed with flowers and fancy candles. Fresh clean bedding, fluffy towels and bathrobe. Good root out of all the fancy 'save for special' bath&beauty products. Bespoke playlist. M&S/Waitrose smorgasbord.

On the day:

  • Actually use the various gifted home-massage gizmos that have been gathering dust.
  • Fill the bath to second mortgage level.... and just keep topping up that hot water patting meself on the head all the while for how much I'm saving by not going Pro.
  • Oh those iced cucumber slices on the eyes takes me back decades!
  • Frothy coffee in bone china / lemon & honey.
  • Scrub/Pumice/shave & cotton bud excavate away at least half a stone of bodily detritis
  • Apply half a stone of Origins Ginger Souffle body mousse
  • Inhale

Alright, I’ve decided on my spa routine. It’s not so much a day as a half day, but I think that would work better for me.

At midday, I’d apply hair oil all over and then do a five minute scalp massage with electric massager. I’d then pin my hair up out of the way and leave hair oil to soak.

I’d cleanse my face with a gentle foaming cleanser, then slap on a thick layer of eye cream followed by an equally thick layer of serum.

At this point I’d probably get on with my weekend jobs, but if I had time to spare I’d lounge in the garden for a while and get some sun, followed by a bit of light yoga and stretching. I’d also drink lots of water and snack on veg/fruit in the day. Generally eat light and clean.

Around 4 I’d head to the gym and workout hard for an hour. I’d then go to the changing rooms and spend 5-10 minutes dry body brushing (meant to be extra beneficial post exercise I’ve heard.)

I’d then spend half an hour alternating between the sauna and steam room (also meant to be good post body brushing!)

At home I’d have a light salad for dinner, plus another big glass of water with lemon, then I’d sit and relax or meditate for half an hour with my heat cap on (a plug in thing I got yonks ago that makes my hair treatments penetrate better).

I’d then have a shower, wash out my hair oil and apply a hair mask. I’d leave that to soak while applying a body scrub all over, then rinse it all off and finally shave my legs etc.

Out of the shower I’d wrap my hair in a towel and then apply first a body oil, then a body cream on top (apparently locks moisture in better).

I’d then give myself a facial, starting with a deep cleanse with an acidy foam cleanser. I’d then steam my face and cleanse again with an exfoliant. I’d then apply a clay mask and sit back for 20 minutes (with cucumber slices if so inclined) before washing it off, then I’d put on some gel under eye patches and a sheet mask.

While this mask was sitting I’d give myself a pedicure, full works with my foot bath and lots of scrubs and a pumice stone followed by lots of cream and some cotton socks.

I’d then take off the sheet mask and dry my hair big and bouncy, then set it all in sleep rollers, pinned under my silk cap for bedtime.

I’d then do my normal nighttime skin routine, but add an extra thick layer of sleep mask on top for the sake of it.

Finally I’d give myself a manicure, slap on a load of hand cream and some cotton gloves, then head off to bed!

Sounds good in theory and I’m dying to try it now! Could all fall apart in practice but I like the concept!

(sorry I took so long @Fruttidelbosco!)
