Talk to me about Birkenstocks

The Arizona style, specifically.

I'm going on holiday and need some sandals that are comfy for walking in. Not hiking or anything, but maybe a few hours walking around a city. I don't know if I have particularly knobbly feet but for some reason I'm quite blister-prone, so the backless style of the Arizonas appeals to me.

I've heard a lot of people say they're comfy but is that just for pottering about the garden? As they're backless do they flap around on your feet and cause achey muscles after a while from trying to keep them on, like flip flops?

@Jins do you mind sharing which outlet you used? I never know which ones are genuine. Bought from Amazon in the past but they turned out to be fakes!

The suede Arizona with the soft footbed are so soft that they couldn't possibly give anyone a blister unless you have got the wrong size and your toe hangs over the edge.

Soft footbed birkenstocks are clearly marked as such. They save you having to do the few days wearing-them-in thing.

Also - Birkenstocks come in two widths which again are clearly marked on the footbed. The solid black foot symbol is for narrow fit, and an outline for wide fit. Getting the correct width is vital for comfort.

I’ve just bought a pair of big buckle arizonas from an outlet. Really helpful staff. They told me that if the size 36 gizeh is perfect then I’d be better with the size 37 narrow in Arizonas. I didn’t believe them but they were right.

£75 instead of £125 so I’m happy with that. On the strength of this thread I’d bought a pair of Lazy Dogz but I sent them back this morning for a refund. They are ok but not even close to birkies. I also couldn’t get on board with the white sole.

Anyway if you’re anywhere near an outlet the prices are good. Madrids from £39, Arizonas from £43. (These were leather). Mostly bright colours or sparkly but worth a look

Interesting what you say about widths.

I've just bought some Arizonas online from Office. When i received them I spotted that they were narrow width, which isn't what I thought I was ordering. I checked back on the website, and the 'men's' Arizonas are all standard width and the 'women's' are narrow. It's buried in the small print further down!

This could also be why I never got on with my standard width Madrids - could never keep them on.

I saw a few people yesterday with fake Birkies and none them fitted the person properly. You could see their toes squished up on raised edges or hanging off the back. I was thinking how bad their poor feet would feel after.

Even with the real deal there has to be space around your toes

@behaveasbefitsthesituationwillyas

You know you can get the soles replaced?

That's interesting, do they use Birkenstock soles , where would I send them?

Tangled123 · 13/06/2023 23:07

I love my Arizona Birkenstocks. I agree that they aren’t very pretty, and the sole was uncomfortable at the start, but I broke them in very quickly and pretty much live in them now 2 years after I bought them (when I’m not working). I had to go down a size too.

I wear mine from Spring to Autumn. As soon as I’m out of boots & tights. I never had to break them in. They are pricey, even when bought in Germany.

As for style and fashion, Birkenstocks are now part of LVMH, don’t you know 😀
