I have two weddings to go to in the next couple of weeks. First is family - attending with excruciatingly figure-conscious mother (my figure, that is ); and second ex DP's where bride is slim and pretty (no kids, that's why .)

I have been promisng myself to lose weight for it, but instead have been scoffing loads of carbs and hiding it under winter clothes.

Please help me with the best, and comfiest ones, to hide flab all around the middle and a jelly belly....

The best thing that I have is a body from years ago - an underwired bra with stretchy body that poppers under the crotch. I wear this with tights underneath (pulled up to my boobs!) and you get no line round your waist so clothes look much better. Only wear on special occasions -just let the fat hang over the top of my jeans usually but wear a long top so no-one knows....

Beetroot · 19/02/2008 12:17

this is extraordinary

Other than that M and S ones are good.

laundrylover · 19/02/2008 12:22

this looks a bit sexier!! My body thingy isn't a 'shaper' one but it still does the trick.

Beetroot LOL at thought of my boobs spilling over the top of that vest thing!

Beetroot · 19/02/2008 12:24

But if you wear a good bra it is fine - honest I laughed at it and then my sil bought one and I tried it on and it was fantastic

Beetroot · 19/02/2008 12:25

the ohter will give you miuch beter shape I promise

redadmiral · 19/02/2008 12:27

Thanks girls. I can see I have an uncomfortable and embarrassing afternoon ahead of me trying these on. Last time I attempted it with the spanx ones and they were so uncomfortable I couldn't understand how anyone could wear them... Couldn't wait to pop them off after 30 seconds wear.

Will try M&S. Is there a littlewoods near Oxford St? I think they do the T and S ones.

May also try the vest thing as you can send it back. (Can you tell I'm DESPERATE?)

Beetroot · 19/02/2008 12:29

redadmiral · 19/02/2008 12:33

Will I be able to breathe?

OP posts:
Beetroot · 19/02/2008 12:38

When you try it on keep iton for a couple of hours. Even my 14 year old son noticed!!

redadmiral · 19/02/2008 12:54

OK. Thanks very much. I'll let you know how I get on. (No pictures mind!)

hifi · 19/02/2008 16:09

they always give me trapped wind!

redadmiral · 19/02/2008 18:33

OK, well the feedback is that I didn't even make it to M&S with the small bit of childfree time I had. However, I have bought something between a tent and a t-shirt which hangs down from the bust and doesn't cling (I hope) to wobbly bits beyond.

Thank you all for your help - will save it for the next time

bitshockedrightnow · 19/02/2008 18:38

Spanx are the best. I find M & S just push the fat up and give you back boobs.

DualCycloneCod · 19/02/2008 18:52

agree re marks ones i took mine back
have spansx ones hidign amt mates house( we haev a dela withthe postman so our h's wont know)

Beetroot · 20/02/2008 09:32

I might have a look at the spanx ones

RA I would gt them anyay as the dress thinkgy may hang in a particular was and it awalys looks good to be smooth

redadmiral · 20/02/2008 10:02

Thanks Beetroot. I shall be looking at them today as DP had hysterics when he saw the dress I'd bought - said it looked like something out of Startrek.

I've dredged out an old summer dress and will go to John Lewis and try on the Spanx ones again. Will be such fun with two children in tow. Last time we went shopping together everyone could hear the chorus of 'Try that Mummy, that's a nice dress.... Oh no... makes you look fat...' In the end my three yearold was just singing 'fat fat fat fat...' as I plumbed the depths of mortification.

redadmiral · 20/02/2008 23:23

Got some! Thanks for all the advice. Got the spanx ones - they're great.

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 20/02/2008 23:38

has anyone tried these?

redadmiral · 21/02/2008 11:20

Been trying on all my wardrobe over my svelte new shape

Just kidding, there's only so much they can do, but I'm very pleased with them. The extra bomnus is that you can't eat with them on!!
