Botox while breastfeeding

Just that really. Thoughts? All the googling is pretty inconclusive but does state unlikely to harm as so localised. I’ve found a few trustworthy practitioners that will do it, but would really like to find at least a couple of reliable studies to show it’s not risky.

Please don’t judge. I’m just considering it and doing all the due diligence, I would never put a baby at risk for vanity purposes but my ageing appearance is really getting me down.

Obviously not pregnant women, and likely not BF’ing either due to licenses and insurance etc, but the latter I guess that’s down to the mother’s discretion. I wonder how many women must have had Botox before realising they were pregnant! That would worry me but you never seem to hear anything of this happening.

Pharmacist here. The advice from the manufacturer of Botox is:
There is no information on whether BOTOX is excreted in human milk. The use of BOTOX during breast-feeding cannot be recommended.
As mentioned already, I'd be absolutely amazed if any reputable aesthetic practitioner would knowingly inject a breastfeeding mum with botox.

Quite. Similarly I’d be astounded if a legitimate prescriber would put their professional registration on the line to prescribe this against the contraindications. But as we know there are unscrupulous people who put profit and client vanity above safety.

No, it’s down to the prescriber’s professional judgment and the patient’s informed consent.

I had it whilst breast feeding as i get severe migraines and they intensified with the pregnancy / breast feeding hormones. I was advised not to feed the baby for 6 hrs and give a bottle instead, but everything was absolutely fine. 🙂

It's unlikely but there is still a risk. remember that botulism is the most toxic substance on the planet. it's a tiny dose used but when it goes wrong it can go very very wrong. if it was for a medical reason i may risk it but for wrinkles probably not.

But it's your body and your choice. there won't be studies either way as testing that on babies would be exceptionally dangerous and wouldn't happen so it's up to you how important it is and how much of a risk you feel it is.

That’s good. However you were prescribed it taking into account all the risks and benefits. In your case the benefits were huge for you. As I said before a reputable prescriber is likely to conclude that the risks outweigh the benefits in the case of cosmetic use.
