Allergic to all eye make up - false lash help

Hedgehog6 · 15/05/2023 23:13

I’m allergic to all eye make up tried everything over the years but just end up a blinky red eyed mess. I haven’t tried false eye lashes apart from the purely magnetic ones (ie not with eyeliner) but failed miserably at putting them on. On holiday next week and I really want to try some very natural, not too long lashes that are super simple to apply. Does anyone have any recommendations?

No advice for eye lashes but wanted to suggest La Roche Posay for mascara and eyeliners. I'm also allergic to all eye makeup and this is one of the two brands I can tolerate. The other one is not sold in the UK.

I'm like this with mascara etc and get eyelash extensions. I love that I can just put some tinted moisturiser and bronzer on and look nice. I pay £25 every 3 weeks for infills. It was £50 first visit for full set.

@NotABeliever unfortunately I was ok with La Roche Posay for a short while but now it irritates my eyes 😞
@Remagirl I will look into this

Oh no! That sucks!
The other brand I can use is BioNike. It's an Italian brand. I used to buy from this website but I'm not sure if they still sell to the UK post Brexit

Are you sure that you’ll be ok with lash glue? If you have a reaction to other eye products then this might cause an issue too (I used to work as a nurse in A&E and I’ve seen a few nasty reactions and it’s harder to fully remove if you do have a reaction, especially if your eyes are sore and swollen).

You could also try having your lashes permanently tinted and an lvl lash lift (I had this done for my wedding and honeymoon and it meant I didn’t need to bother with any eye makeup for weeks- although it’s much more subtle than false lashes so it depends what look you’re going for). Obviously chat to a beautician before doing it and let them know that you’ve had issues with other eye products. I had to do a patch test before my appointment to actually have it done.

Would a lash lift/tint be an option? I hate wearing mascara so get this instead for events/holidays. You'd need a patch test before to check the dye/curling solution doesn't irritate.

Sorry! Didn't read the end of your comment and then just said the same. Oops.

@ISpyNoPlumPie Yes thanks for that I would definitely get a patch test but I’m not sure if tint would be any better than glue 🤷‍♀️ I’m a bit worried about trying anything knowing what my reaction to makeup is like. Where do they actually make the patch test? Is it close to the eye? Because it’s not my skin that gets affected 😬

I have used Lashify for the last two years and absolutely love them. I had an allergic reaction after only the second time I had extensions and researched to find something similar I could use myself. They can take a bit of getting used to applying them. I got on with them very quickly and had longevity almost immediately. Some people apply them daily and others can get weeks out of them. I wear them for 5-7 days and launder the lashes when I remove them so I can get another wear out of them.
Not the cheapest option but having tried other brands nothing comes close to Lashify. My favourite lashes are the Starbursts.

I hope that helps.

Don't try anything just before your holiday.

Just out of interest, is the other one Almay?

NotABeliever · 16/05/2023 22:14

@JacquelinePot No, it's the Italian brand Bionike which is only sold in pharmacies. I tried it while on holiday.

Remagirl · 16/05/2023 22:41

The patch test is on your wrist. I had keep a piece of tape, like micropore on my lower eye skin for 20 mins. I'm really bad with a lot of products and had no issues. I've had a lash lift too but it's not as nice as lash extensions.
