Alternative to a bumbag??

I've just started a new job in a school supporting a child with medical needs. I need to carry a small number of items with me all the time (not very big things) and I'm not sure what to carry them in. I don't have a lot of clothes with pockets. I feel like a bumbag won't look right on me (and are they a bit frumpy or are they trendy now? I'm not very up on my fashion!) - I've got big hips and a mum tum and I feel like a bumbag will just emphasise them! I wondered about a small bag I could wear cross body but then I think it must just flap about everywhere and get in the way. Any ideas??

There's a Uniqlo cross body bag everyone is raving about, comes in loads of colours too. I can't seem to paste a link - just Uniqlo cross body bag into Google.

Weirdly cross body bumbags seem to be in (but look awful)

Just get a cross body bag .they are right size for bits and bobs. I have kipling bags but I realise those are considered a bit naff.

Oh yeah they look really awkward to wear though.

I saw the crossbody bags that sit tight to the chest but they look quite uncomfortable and I think probably even less flattering on me than a bum bag lol!

I think in this situation, practical needs to trump style. If it's for something like an epi-pen or diabetes monitor then it should be easily accessible and a bumbag is perfect for this. Also you need to think about any 'tricky customers' a bumbag can be easily released from the body should the need arise, whereas a crossbody and be easily use to pull you back/to the floor if you're not expecting it, be a strangle risk if it has a thin strap etc.
Bumbags aren't stylish, but ideal for the child's essential equipment and needs.

And I don't know where those emojis came from! Enough Mumsnet for me today I think!

I've just bought the Uniqlo crossbody bag and it's great.
I can get loads in it and it's comfortable to wear

Moondust · 15/05/2023 20:16

@TFMinx I think you might be right. In fact I know you are so I think I need to start looking for one that doesn't take me back to the 80s too much 😄

I love the lululemon anywhere belt bags (have four!) and they're comfortable, fit quite a bit in and I find they don't make me look frumpy or bigger.

I speak as a teacher who's seen children get very creative with things they can grab on to!

I've seen some TAs get plain bumbags or whatever their charge needs, and gets the child to help decorate it with stickers or neon paints (if said child is young enough to enjoy that sort of thing, that is) again, not fashionable, but means they have ownership of it too.

I really like the Uniqlo ones. I got a Keith Haring pattern one which is funky and it’s comfy to wear with more room than you’d think. Quite cheap too.
