Boots lack of choice. Going down the tube??

Reading the financial press Walgreen owners of Boots are closing stores in USA. They've tried to offload Boots no takers. Didn't think much of it until I went in today. Their make up range has shrunk so much. Another lady wanted advice for no 7 mascara because she couldn't find a replacement or a member of staff. I'd just bought a Maybelline one so said try that. Rimmel London do liquid eyeliner with a brush not in my Boots they don't
checked online it's still available.

having lost Debenhams Boots are all that's left here now.

I don't want to buy online only. I want to see and try the product. No chance now

I'm sad. Have women stopped wearing makeup?

I'm a regular Boots shopper because of the recycling incentive- 5 pound worth of points for 5 empties when you spend £10. It's a bit of a faff but the points rack up very quickly.

My local Boots is very well stocked but has recently introduced self service tills which are a right pain in the backside. Particularly when every trip there involves utilising vouchers and in-app offers to get the best value.

Oakiedoakie · 16/05/2023 01:01

I really feel Boots shoot themselves in the foot, continually, with the scrapping of well loved own brand items, for no reason - the time delay moisturiser, the pink no 7 cleanser, the no7 pressed powder, I could go on. Why do they do this, just for the sake of change? If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

WGACA · 16/05/2023 01:48

I like No 7 products a lot. I also buy my cleanser in there but that’s about it. Shops like Home Bargains and supermarkets are better for all other toiletries. Their loyalty scheme is great so it’s a shame they’re messing with that. Or local store is terribly stocked but the one in town is huge over 2 floors and is always busy. I wonder if they’ll switch to pharmacy only?

SurpriseSparDay · 16/05/2023 07:23

Ah, yes … the inescapable standoff at the tills:

Do you have a loyalty card?
No.
Do you want to sign up for one?
No, thanks.
Oh, do you know we have a 342 promotion on this item?
Oh? No thanks, I only want one. Yes, I’m sure.
Would you like a voucher for Unpopular Product Of The Month?
No, thank you - I never use UPOTM …
That’ll be £40 please. Just stick your card in the … Oh sorry, this one doesn’t seem to be working. Can you come over to another till?

Every single time. And yet the self service tills were even worse.

That was … cleansing! I’ve remembered why I feel no urge to return. Grin

Our local Boots (small but not tiny) never seem to restock make up. I've been in several times and they never have what I want. On the most recent visit, I wanted to look at a couple of new products but they've actually cordoned off the male up aisles and you have to ask a member of staff for the item you want. I didn't buy anything (& won't) because I wanted to look at different shades etc.
Our local (small) Superdrug was great but has closed down and I really miss it. They had a large range of products and testers (unlike Boots).
I'll make a trip in to town soon and visit Superdrug as they are much more customer friendly.

My local Boots store (small town) is rubbish. Little stock and more than once I've got to the till with a 'buy this and get x free' offer and x has not been available. The store itself is tatty and dirty and run down and the staff not especially welcoming.

BUT I find I shop online with them more often than I used to. Contrary to other's experiences, I think the online prices are pretty good and often I do a price comparison with other stores and Boots come out cheaper - mainly because they have so many offers going all the time.

Free delivery has a low bar to qualify and I always find items arrived within a day or two - very fast for free delivery.

I agree that their Advantage card has lost a huge amount of value since they devalued the pointds and made it so that you cannot use them to part pay for an order (you need enough points to cover the whole order).

AFishCalledKeith · 16/05/2023 09:57

Oh, and on the flip side: I recently went to the massive store in Brighton and loved it! So much choice and the lady at the till knew all the available offers on the items I was buying and applied them all which meant I got 2 items for 3/4 of the price of a single one. Grin

If I lived closer, I'dspend far too much money in there.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 16/05/2023 10:13

My toiletries, make up and medicine needs can all be satisfied at the supermarket so I can't remember the last time I stepped in a Boots. Probably before Christmas for the obligatory secret santa ted Baker smellies shit.

They'd do well to just offer really go pharmaceutical provision and let go of the overpriced shampoos etc.

God I adore Boots. Sad they stopped stocking the Lime Crime Plushies though.

I used to live basically over the road from this one and it was like my wonderland, even when I had naff-all money, I would buy makeup after ages choosing, and look longingly at the "posh" makeup. First eyebrow waxing was in there, with the lovely ladies on the Benefit counter. Good times.

justasking111 · 16/05/2023 11:57

It seems Boots in some areas stock a far wider range than ours does. We have two big stores in shopping centres but lines like Benefit, MAC, Urban Decay, Estée Lauder, etc. Don't figure in their store. I have to buy Nars, MAC etc online.

Just tried to order the latest Boots No 7 beauty vault offer and the website was so stressful. The product was sold out by the time I'd waded through it and got my basket ready.

balzamico · 16/05/2023 14:38

We have a small local store and its like they have completely given up. They close at lunchtimes and the store looks so dingy and unloved.

LakeTiticaca · 16/05/2023 14:55

Superdrug is cheaper than Boots.
Boots customer service is shocking now, hardly any visible staff, and if you are in a hurry don't bother going in to buy anything from behind the pharmacy counter you will be waiting forever

thenightsky · 16/05/2023 15:04

Our local Boots is hopeless. Its closed half the time because they cannot get a pharmacist (locum or otherwise), so they just don't bother opening.

I managed to find it open the other week, so went in, only to be told to hurry up and then ushered out because they were closing for lunch!

You've never been able to part-pay for an order with points (I've had a card for 25 years...)
