Are some shops better for certain figures?

Depending on whether they are a British brand or whether they are a foreign brand?

If so which shops for a petite and curvy figure? I have found Mango tops( including knitwear) to be a good (Xs and XXS) fit. I have not tried any bottoms as such yet.

I have a flat bum and can’t wear Boden trousers: they look like jodhpurs on me. So I’m guessing they work for people who are more shapely then I am. I haven’t noticed a difference between British and foreign brands though. Fit seems to be very brand-specific.

Niftythrifter · 13/05/2023 11:43

@BuffyTheCat That’s what I am getting at in terms of the fit/ cut which I think might be influenced by where the brand originates and the native population alongside lifestyle etc.

Sadly too expensive to actually buy but I’m a relatively petite hourglass ( as in short and narrow but size 10) and found that Gerard Darel and other French brands often suit me. Which I didn’t expect being curvy!

Try Monsoon

Niftythrifter · 13/05/2023 14:56

@KirstenBlest for me or the pp? I think Monsoon is quite generous size wise.

Next trousers are no good for me despite the penchant for vanity sizing (I'm a 12 everywhere else except Next where I'm an 8, and Zara where I'm a "oh my god you're morbidly obese we'd have to get a crane to get you into the changing rooms") because they seem to made for very very hourglass shapes. I'm straight up and down. My waist is the same size as my hips.

On that basis, petite and hourglass I'd say Zara, Mango, H&M, Uniqlo.

KirstenBlest · 13/05/2023 15:05

@Niftythrifter , I know someone who wears them a lot and she is shorter than me, so almost certainly petite. She has a figure, but I haven't really thought about whether she has a tiny waist. She always looks great. Monsoon clothes don't suit me but I am more angular with not much of a waist

Lemursandions · 14/05/2023 09:55

I also find monsoon too wide generally.

Trousers as an hourglass are just really difficult - the waist always seems too big if the hips fit. I have sometimes had a small dart put in the waist but then that adds to the cost.

I did get some NRBY trousers that were quite a good fit OP.

gardeninggloves · 14/05/2023 09:57

I'm quite curvy (16/18) and love H&M. They seem to do quite a few flattering, floaty type dresses/shirts that are good if you're trying to disguise the wobbly bits.

bingoitsadingo · 15/05/2023 18:06

I am pear/hourglass shaped and really struggle with trousers but the ASOS hourglass range is a godsend.

doglover90 · 15/05/2023 19:15

I think Toast is made for tall, slender women. I'm slender but also short, and Toast makes me look really frumpy.

dontcallmelen · 15/05/2023 19:42

I find monsoon comes up really big as do next & M&S petite range
I’m a triple whammy old short & thin I have a really hard time with trousers & skirts as I have no hips or bum.
sometimes find stuff in river island/French connection/jigsaw & occasionally Zara but have to trawl as lot of it is I feel to young for me, I dunno I’m fed up with clothes at the moment it’s feels such a mission.

lenalove · 17/05/2023 10:23

I am an hourglass 10-12 and honestly Zara and Mango are a nightmare for me. I end up sizing up to a large but the fit isn't quite right. I am busty and their tops always gape across the chest. Frustrating as they have some lovely stuff!

GettingStuffed · 17/05/2023 10:32

I m an hour glass and find Primark trousers are best.
