a size ten is a size six. so that means that a size zero is really only a size four.

and i know someone in rl who is a size four.
lovely girl. two children.toddler and four year old. she is naturally that way. not anorexic or bulimic. and she finds going clothes shopping a complete nightmare.

She must be tiny. Even my very slender 16 yo, 5 foot 7 is a size 8.

she is. but her face is normal looking. not at all lollypop lady iyswim.
but its good to know that she is a size zero. because when she said that she was a four. six if she was lucky, it really got me worried about just how skeletal you would have to be to become a zero. i dont think my pelvic bones would reduce to that sort of size even if i was starving.

lots of people are naturally thin, but the shops have over the last 20-15y introduced vanity sizing. so todays size 4 would have been a size 6-8 a few years ago, a size 8 would have been a 10 etc etc.

I was a size 4 when I first started buying adult clothes and it was a nightmare! Most places only started at size 8 then but even if I did manage to find a 6 it would hang off me. It was awful not being able to buy adult clothes when all my friends could, and still having to shop at tammy etc when I was 18 was embarrassing-wouldn't bother me now but as an 18 year old it really did!

exactly. and i think this is why size zero was never around before. becaus it was literally impossible to be. i think todays size zero really is a lot bigger than it would have been had it been around a few decades ago.
i was trying to find some clothes in asos today. and next to each dress size, their isusually a chest size. whihc has meant that i have ordered one itemin a 10, another in a 12, and another in a 16. all with supposedly the same chest measurement.

Sizing varies massively from shop to shop too. So a 4 in one shop could be an 8 elsewhere.

Today I've tried on clothes and fit perfectly in a size 10....and size 12 ....and size 14 (obviously I prefer being a 10 )

My friend moved to NY was astonished to find that she was a size zero, I think she's a 6 (sometimes an 8) in the UK. She doesn't look ill or skinny to me, but she is very petite and small-boned. I think the size zero c-listers who get photographed are often reasonably tall and that's why they look so skeletal.

There's nothing wrong with being any particular size IMO, only with striving to be a size that your body wouldn't normally be.

I know a couple of size 4s/0s, neither of them put any effort into it or anything as far as I know, it's just the way they're built

so I have just dug out an old pattern that I used to make a school tennis dress in the 70's and the sizes in inches are as follows:

8 = 31.5/24/33.5

10 = 32.5/25/34.5

12 = 34/26.5/36

14 = 36/28/38

16 = 38/30/40

sizes have got a LOT bigger since then

A size Zero is

according to Wiki it's:

Bust size: 31.5 inches (80 cm); Waist size: 23 inches (60 cm); Hip size: 34 inches (86 cm)

and when I were a lass that was a UK size 8/10

when i was 19 i was 34 22 34. i was defintitly a 12 then.

welll, the 22 was by sucking in. without suckingin it was 34. i was normal and healthy. couldnt get into a ten as bottom too big.

i'd barely make it into one of the old 14's now. yet i wore a pair of dsis size 8's a couple of weeks a go.

iota, when i was a size 6-8 i had those measurements (having ds has shifted my bones about a bit) but once again the media has jumped on this "size zero" nonsense and condemned shops for stocking size 0 clothes. doesnt stop them criticsing charlotte church or britney spears for putting on weight, or flaunting "sexy" cheryl cole and nadine coyle as the look to strive for. vanity sizing is in response to the media's obsession with celebrity and the old "you can never be too rich or too thin" adage.

A size 0 is the same sixe as a 7-year-old. I read that somewhere and as the mum of a skinny 9 year old I was flabbered.

My dd is a skinny almost 7 year old and she is most definitely not a size 0. I am a size 6/8 and am certainly bigger than she is. This is how the scaremongering starts (sorry sparkybabe I know you are not responsible for what you read)

So true about vanity sizing. I have a lovely pencil skirt of my mum's from the 70s which is size 14 and fits me beautifully but I'm a 10 or a 12 when I buy new clothes.

Little girls don#t have a waist as such though - they tend to be fairly similar size all round - so I don't really think you can compare.
