Going to a Michelin starred restaurant for an 'important' birthday of a v good friend.

I've had a rough few months and I want to look as good as I can. I bought a dress but decided its too dressy.

What kind of thing do I go for? I'm 35. Size 10, in reasonable nick. I have no idea what colour palette I am but I've got reddish hair and look nice in jewel colours or pale pink.

I quite like a retro vibe, the black and white (it's actually pale pink) looks v 60s and the floral is quite 70s. I do absolutely love the floral, its one of my favourite things to wear

Crossed with mine. Both dresses are 1960s / early 1970s.

I would absolutely wear one of the dresses then OP.

Is it Le Manoir?

I'd say Le Manoir is definitely dressier than L'enclume, it's a special place that people go for special occasions and stay. It's a fully festive place. No need for studied underdressing.

Having said all of that, I've never seen anyone I'd consider 'overdressed' in a Michelin star. It's a complete mix of people in every one I've ever been to. You get people there for the food, there for the experience or there for the show.

AND the great thing about Michelin starred restaurants is that they understand that and will make you feel comfortable whatever you wear.

You are there to enjoy some excellent food and service. Enjoy it!

Of course you can wear a short dress to a restaurant in the evening. If anything is OTT it's the long green dress another poster linked to.

Yes I’m terms of etiquette it’s fine (can wear short cocktail dress unless it’s white tie) what I meant was it can be awkward to sit in a short dress. IMO short dress work best for events involving dancing and a lot of standing.
