Dry, flaky forehead

I’ve had this for years now and feel like I’ve tried everything. Many lotions and potions and supplements. Still the same dry, flaky forehead with added red bumps whenever I react to trying a new product. I stopped using anything and just washed my face once a day with water to see if that would help. Can’t wear foundation as it makes the flakes more obvious. If I put moisturiser on or touch my forehead, you can see the flakes falling off!

I’m posting now because it’s been so dry lately that I’m seeing more pronounced wrinkles. Oils and hyaluronic acid have not helped with hydration. I don’t know what to try anymore. I’m hoping someone has had the same problem and has some miracle advice that worked for them that I’ve yet to try.

Have you tried 5% urea cream?

Liquorish · 09/05/2023 13:12

@schnauzerbeard that is something I have not tried! Did it work for you?

Have you tried changing your shampoo?
Squalane?

Liquorish · 09/05/2023 13:22

@GeraltsBathtub I use the Body Shop ginger shampoo which thankfully helps with my itchy scalp. I’ve used Nizoral shampoo on my forehead which does help some of the flakiness but causes red spots.

I’ve never looked into Squalene before, thanks for mentioning it. Sounds promising. I wonder if I would get on better with it than hyaluronic acid.

Did you have a reaction to HA or it just didn’t help? I use squalane over it to kind of seal in the moisture. And always pat some water on my face before applying the HA.

I was thinking of trying that shampoo myself, I’m using E45 shampoo at the moment which is good on the skin front but doesn’t feel very luxurious!

BrandNewBicep · 09/05/2023 13:26

I had the same problem. I have sorted it out with Boots Ingredients Lactic Acid serum followed by Eucerin 5% Urea Face cream.

Liquorish · 09/05/2023 13:40

@GeraltsBathtub definitely try it, it smells delicious and goes on well. I feel like a lot of shampoos disappear when you put them on but you don’t need to use much with this.

It’s a bit of both with the HA. Don’t feel like it’s doing much and then I put a moisturiser on top and can’t tell what’s causing the redness and dryness. I first tried it with Skin Food on top which was a complete no for my skin. Thanks for the tips, I will try some Squalene with it instead!

@BrandNewBicep thats great to hear you’ve solved it! I will try that combo and hope I get the same results.

The only thing that worked for me was the Eucerin in the pot. Which is a urea cream.

I've never had the flaking since!

Liquorish · 09/05/2023 14:15

@Barold I was going to buy the tube for the face from Boots now you have me wondering if the pot is better! Glad it worked for you. I’m hopeful now since it’s worked for you all.

If the above suggestions don't work for you, you could try H&S Derma Pro Max shampoo and E45 facial wash and cream.

That combination solved the exact same problem as yours and I had substantial flakes flaking off it was soooo embarrassing.

They’re all different. You need the pot if you want a functional moisturiser. You need one of the others if you want a greasy treatment.

@Trez1510 thank you! All suggestions welcome. It’s reassuring to hear from people that have had the exact same problem and managed to find a solution to it. It really is embarrassing and annoying! I used to have very oily skin so I don’t know how I’ve ended up with the complete opposite.

I use Superdrug collagen drops on my forehead. It really helps moisturise but I use a serum and moisturiser as well.

lalaandpo · 09/05/2023 19:20

I used to have the same and the only moisturiser I can now use is Aveeno Dermexa for itchy skin. It works amazingly.
