City break

Desperately seeking some advice for an upcoming city break to Madrid with a few girlfriends.

This is my first trip away since a really messy divorce and last I’m looking forward to it hugely. I’m also quite worried as I have put on a couple of stone in weight don’t feel very body confident and I’m going with some really stylish women (who are lovely and won’t actually care what I look like). I’ve been dress shopping today and would really like some input.

I’m leaning towards the green tie-dye dress, partly because it seems to fit best. It doesn’t gape at the bust and I wouldn’t need special underwear for it. Plus maybe a more practical colour. The zigzag dress im less keen on - feels a bit young. I’m mid 40s

But I’m aware that these practical thoughts are partly why I look the way I look. Could I have your honest opinions please whether any of these dresses are good or whether I need to look elsewhere

I actually prefer the look of the first two dresses - they look absolutely lovely and give you a fab figure!

The first one is such a classic dress and perfect for a city break - comfy trainers, sunglasses and a lovely crossbody bag and you've got the perfect daytime outfit.

The zig zag looks really nice too, very flattering in that photo! I don't think it looks young at all, Im 30 and wouldn't bat an eyelid at someone in their 40s wearing it!

Green tie dye also is flattering, but I'm just not a fan of the pattern personally.

I think the second one looks the best on you. I can imagine it looking good with tan sandals or espadrille wedges. I think the first one and last one are too flouncy for my personal taste.

Second one being the shorter dress.

Thanks @rainraingoawaay that’s given me so much hope. I’m trying to embrace my new figure rather than be miserable dieting. People can either like me as they find me or get lost. XH never ever complimented me and it has affected my self esteem

@Niftythrifter I’d discounted the shorter as being too young. Plus I think my knees look stocky in it. I’ll have another try on of it

You have a great figure and I honestly think all three of the dresses look lovely on you.
Personally, I like the second one and think it looks the best on you out of the three.

Don’t think they look too young at all, I’m 38 and would definitely wear any of these. All absolutely perfect for a city break too.

Have a great time

Your choices aren’t horrible, @Borris, but that article reminded me of Adolfo Dominguez in particular, which I’m sure used to have a branch in my nearest city. I had a look and honestly think you could do better than flowery wrap dresses. Love the stuff in these photos. (It’s probably the most grown up of the brands mentioned, though they all have their merits at varying price points.)

Sorry! Printed, not flowery - obvs!

The short green one looks better than th either two by a long way. I think it makes you look younger.

greyhairnomore · 08/05/2023 13:03

I like all of them , the second one best. You certainly don't look overweight.

Samphiredragonfly · 08/05/2023 13:06

@Moredarkchocolateplease how can OP look younger when all you can see is a body and no face 😂
