If you’re mid 30s where do you shop?

I’m having absolutely no luck with finding new clothes at the minute and have really struggled for the last couple of years. So if you are of a similar age with a similar lifestyle, where do you shop?

I’m 35, wfh mostly but with odd days in the office and spend anytime I’m not working with my toddler or walking the dog.

I used to buy a lot from Warehouse and Oasis when they were on the high street but that was probably more for my work wardrobe.

I've really liked some of TU's stuff the last year or so. There are no high-end fabrics, it's mostly synthetic, but I've liked the designs and they're affordable. I'm late 30s and work in a hospital but currently on mat leave, so I don't have much need for office wear but I do like to look half decent!

Makemeover3 · 07/05/2023 21:28

Thanks @OnSusansFloor you’re doing better than I did on mat leave 😂I’ve only recently gone back to work and it does feel good to be making a bit of an effort again. I’ll have a look at TU.

M&S, Next, New Look, H&M.

I find it's harder to find nice pieces these days as there's such a weird sense of style in fashion - chunky shoes, skirts and dresses slit to practically the crotch and jumpers that finish above your belly button 😂

Haveallthesongsbeenwritten · 07/05/2023 21:30

oliver Bonas, laredoute, asos, french connection, whistles… fancier stuff for work: ted baker/karen millen/me and em…
i am 34.

Pineapplewanderer · 07/05/2023 21:30

I recently got a few bits from TU that I ordered online. On the label it said Topshop?? Any ideas? @OnSusansFloor

CharlotteRose90 · 07/05/2023 21:31

I’m 33 and shop at new look, primark, Tesco , H&M mainly. I work for an airline so my day to day outfits are covered it’s just other bits .

Makemeover3 · 07/05/2023 21:31

@tootrueblue I think that’s probably the problem I’m having with clothes! I barely like anything and then when I do like something it unfortunately doesn’t seem to like me 😂

ASOS, next, hnm.

I do feel really put of touch with fashion at the minute.
I really don't know what my style is anymore, not sure I have the confidence to wear what I want to!

neonleopard · 07/05/2023 21:33

Similar issue here! The John Lewis website is good for a browse. I'm slightly embarrassed to admit a lot of my recent purchases are from M&S! Nice jersey midi dresses, a trench coat for wearing to the office, comfy but smartish silver trainers.
I tend to work out what I want, then find the item, rather than browsing shops like I used to...e.g. I'm currently only the hunt for the perfect plain white t shirt and perfect red stripe tshirt!
I also use Vinted a lot where I know brands / sizes (e.g. I also used to really like warehouse and oasis etc, can find lots of things on Vinted that are the shape/style I know work for me).

Phase eight, all saints

amidsummernightsdream · 07/05/2023 21:34

Other Stories, Mango, Zara, Sezane, Reiss but yes also struggle esp as petite also

Makemeover3 · 07/05/2023 21:37

@midnightblue12 I feel exactly the same and I’m really fed up of it!

@neonleopard I have actually just bought a couple of blazers from M&S and I think I’ll actually be keeping one of them. I’ve also just ordered a couple more things from there but I’m not convinced they’ll be winners!

Asos with a lot of filtering (mostly jeans), Uniqlo, h&m for basic tees, M&S - surprisingly, would never have found anything there a couple of years ago, Gap for jumpers and tops.

I do like very basic things though. The shape of my jeans or length of jacket might change but I stick with a style I like and know where to find these things.

Blarn · 07/05/2023 21:38

La Redoute is always worth a look too.

Makemeover3 · 07/05/2023 21:43

@amidsummernightsdream I absolutely love the look of some Sezanne pieces but suspect they wouldn’t look like that on me 🙈

@Blarn basic sounds good to me! I do like to keep things simple but just can’t even seem to get that right at the moment.

I wear a lot of uniqulo for basics/ casual.

M&S have really improved over the last few years.

But same, I feel a bit lost fashion-wise.

PolkaDotMankini · 07/05/2023 22:04

I'm also 35. My day-to-day clothes are almost all TU, with a smattering of Fat Face, Boden and French Connection. I dress a bit smarter for work, mostly from Hobbs but also Baukjen and Winser. I'm really not adventurous!

Givemeahigh · 07/05/2023 22:12

I mostly live in Crew, roman (jeans specifically!), boden and joules

StamppotAndGravy · 07/05/2023 22:12

I've got some nice things from Mango recently, otherwise H&M, Cos and Uniqlo

QueenImprov · 07/05/2023 22:16

I'm mid 30s too and used to also love oasis and warehouse.

I now buy mainly from Mango, I love their mom jeans especially and bought some great shirts and t shirts there recently. Also Topshop through asos. Oliver bonas if I can afford to spend a bit more.

ily0xx · 07/05/2023 22:19

happytobemrsg · 07/05/2023 22:55

34 & primarily shop in Zara & H&M. I mainly wear wide leg trousers & chunky knits/linen shirts depending on the season

crazyaboutcats · 07/05/2023 23:08

Uniqlo - basics lots of t-shirts, shirts, and some knitwear (merino wool is great)
Banana Republic, Gap, Levi - jeans and trousers
H&M, Zara, Dorothy Perkins, Primark - fashion
All Saints - jackets
Office - boots and shoes
