I tried this dress on earlier. I liked it but probably didn’t love it. What do you think?

I don’t really want to buy clothes that don’t make me feel great but I’m so desperate for new clothes I’m getting a bit fed up!

You can get things tailored, too. I'm wider on the bust than on the waist and often get dresses taken in at waist. Having something literally fitted to your body will make you feel super-confident!

Makemeover3 · 07/05/2023 19:30

Thanks @GoodOnPaper I’m not really surely what shape I am which I think is partly where I go wrong. I assume pear since I’m a slightly bigger size on the bottom but I’m not entirely sure.

Yeah @Persiana i did think it probably wouldn’t be my colour and almost didn’t pick it up so was surprised when I actually didn’t mind it.

I think it’s too low and too short.
One or the other would work. So that low cut neck line with a longer skirt, or that length with a higher neck line.
The colour is lovely.

Thanks everyone! I honestly just have no idea how to dress my body anymore. After all of the lockdowns, working from home and pregnancy I’m just completely lost. I can’t seem to find anything that suits me!

I was watching one of the Melissa Murrell videos yesterday where she was talking about most people not really fitting into a specific shape but she has videos showing e.g. how to dress for a bigger bust, or to hide a stomach etc so it's a good place to look for tips and 'looks' that work for different shapes.

There are some of her videos here: https://www.mmpersonalstyling.co.uk/blog (there must be loads of others doing the same - she was just someone I saw recommended on here recently).

Thanks everyone! It’s certainly not an overwhelming yes so I think that’s a no then! My husband really liked it but I don’t really trust his opinion on clothes 😂

He likes it because your boobs look great in it Grin

SchmeltzHerring · 07/05/2023 19:44

I love the colour, shape and material.

It just looks a bit too short. A couple of inches longer and it would be perfect.

I would personally still keep it though, if I were you, because I like everything else about it.

Stravaig · 07/05/2023 19:48

I agree with pp, it would be better longer, and needs to be a size larger.
Even fitted dresses look better with some ease all over in summer - it makes them cool and airy, and matches the vibe of the cutout/broderie fabric.

Makemeover3 · 07/05/2023 19:52

@GoodChat 😂

MysteryBelle · 07/05/2023 19:57

It looks great on you and you have a lovely figure. I think a shorter length does suit you, so I disagree with some pp. That said, it is a very casual summer dress that is appropriate for the beach, casual summer get-togethers, at home.

I have a very cute playsuit that I love but I only wear it at home on the weekend and out in the garden. You can go out and about in that dress no problem, but it is very, very casual. But yes, you look great in it.

Rotormotor · 07/05/2023 19:59

I definitely think you would suit a wrap dress. And make it a bit longer.

FeelingLikeAShitMother · 07/05/2023 20:49

I think at that length you’d end up wearing it with leggings which would look frumpy.

Makemeover3 · 07/05/2023 21:12

@FeelingLikeAShitMother I’m not a leggings with dress wearer but I’m not going to get it anyway. Probably need a longer dress generally since realistically I’ll be running after a toddler in whatever I wear 😂

Thanks @MysteryBelle I was just thinking of it for casual days. I’ve got nothing to dress up for nowadays anyway haha! I don’t think I’m going to bother getting it. I just want something I feel nice in when the weather is warmer but back to the drawing board!

Lovely colour dress, too short and too tight on the bust! It would be great if longer

Highdaysandholidays1 · 07/05/2023 22:47

Great figure, but the dress isn't flattering IMO in terms of colour or cut, it's an odd colour against your skin. I prefer separates as I find it easier to find a top that's nice and then a skirt that's nice but that's just me. Dresses do suit you though, just that one isn't the best, I'd go for longer length, different colour, the neckline is fine though.

WeAreTheHeroes · 08/05/2023 07:41

At 5'3" tall OP it would be worth trying dresses from a petite range to see if they are a better fit than the regular ones.

SVRT19674 · 08/05/2023 09:54

The colour makes you look pale and wan. You look more like an autumn girl? That is a winter colour and typically English. It is also too tight and too short. _Believe me, I understand, I had H cups and anything buttoning up the front was a nightmare. Go for v necks, much more flattering.

Sandra1984 · 08/05/2023 10:29

Nice lavender colour but a notch too tight around bust and too short, same dress a notch less tight and over the knee would be very flattering.

MissAtomicBomb1 · 08/05/2023 10:30

Hi OP, I have a similar shape to you - though I'm only 4,11 with an E cup.
I disagree that you with the PP who said it needs to be a longer dress. The short t dress style definitely suits petite ladies. Maxi dresses look dreadful on me.
I've found some nice dresses in a similar style at M&S. They do lots of things in a shorter length too.
I bought some nice shirt style summer dresses from Zara last year but the sizing is a nightmare so you have to try them on!
Similar to this (I just rolled the sleeves up)

Makemeover3 · 08/05/2023 10:46

@SVRT19674 ooh interesting you think autumn, I’d definitely think I was a cool winter. Dark hair, pale skin and blue eyes. I’d be very surprised if I was an autumn. I don’t think the colour is right though. I think I suit the brighter colours from the winter palette and I’m not even sure this is pale enough to be one of the winter colours.

@MissAtomicBomb1 I do like the look of that Zara dress. I might order it and see what I think. I think the colours would work well for me!

Makemeover3 · 08/05/2023 10:57

Thanks all for your comments, I wasn’t expecting so many responses. You’ve all given me a lot to think about. From what everyone has said it might be time to start embracing v-necks. I’ve generally always avoided them and didn’t think they were all that flattering for me but maybe that is just one of the many ways I’m going wrong with clothes!

MrsRinaDecker · 08/05/2023 11:23

I like it but don’t love it! The broderie dress is pretty, but more for a beach holiday, I can’t really picture it in the UK. The first M&S one looks good though 👍
(And I’m very tempted by the cream sweater dress in the Nobody’s Child sale that somebody linked to!)
