How to dress a big belly- really getting me down

I had 3 DS from 2015-2019 and my stomach has suffered. I'm a 14 all over and happy ish with my body except my stomach- I have an apron- but it goes out from under my bra if that makes sense?? Basically anything fitted means I look pregnant, literally people have commented on when I'm due etc so I know it's not in my head!
I've tried to be accepting of it etc but I just can't find anything nice to wear!! End up in leggings and baggy shorts all the time!!

How do you dress a large belly?? I especially find trousers/jeans a massive problem.

I suffer with gallstones and awaiting surgery but not sure if this contributes??

Thanks

Bumping for you. I’m sure you look much better than you think! Also there’s a reason for your tummy. All those reasons you’ve listed!

EarlyBirdCatchesTheWorm · 04/05/2023 22:12

Oh I'd like to know this too! Bump

Here is solidarity and in anticipation of advice

Following because same!

What's worse is my legs and bum are skinny and I look 9 months pregnant.

Diasti recti!!

I found one certain top/dress style works with me where nothing else does.

Let me find my recent dress on the website and I will post it. I always found it doesn't draw to

And also a tip is if you are wearing a top.. not to have it too long and it shows the distinction between side of the bell and the apron and the thighs.

Shorter tops seem to flatter me better with a cardi

Layered at the side like a waterfall cardigan will bring a illusion of length and being slimmer x

Actually one of the links I realised there is a belt under the bust.

We have to avoid that as I also start to bulge from under my bust too.

And waist wraps! Stay clear to!

Look at lagenlook tops.

I have a much bigger belly than you I find tops with a cami and floaty overlay work best

Devonshiregal · 04/05/2023 22:47

i Would feel so overdressed in these… where do you go day to day to wear things like this? What do you keep warm with too? I find it so difficult in the Uk. End up just wearing jumpers and crap all the time. Would love the opportunity to wear nice dresses but nothing to go with it and would freeze

stayathomer · 04/05/2023 22:52

I am the same-12/14 but tiny boobs and a belly that looks like I’m pregnant. I go for skirts and tops/jeans/trousers and tops instead of dresses, (although I recently tried on a black maxi dress in m and s that gave me hope and my friend told me a wraparound style dress would work for me if it fitted properly)

I also go for plain colours and no patterns- especially no stripes!! I find floaty stuff makes me look bigger but obviously anything tight I’d a no/no, I was down about it but went window shopping recently (birthday coming up!) and found that a combination of a long/slouchy cardigan (hides hips/love handles) and a nice fitting top and black trousers or jeans looks well. I was thrilled as I’d given up but it turns out well fitting, quality stuff looks well! everything I tried on was m and s and next, h and m and New look. Best of luck op x

I would watch Melissa Murrell who is on you tube and instagram. She has some great videos of how to dress for various shapes and sizes and it makes such a difference its amazing!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 04/05/2023 23:33

I've been apple-shaped all my life. I really like Uniqlo ultra-stretch leggings trousers for fit, they're wide on the waist and reasonably narrow on the hips.

Hello223 · 04/05/2023 23:35

Following as I have this problem too. I'm a size 8 everywhere, but look about 7 months pregnant, it makes me so sad. I can't wear any of my clothes anymore, I keep ordering stuff and sending it back as it looks awful. I need to figure out how to dress for a completely different body.

Mine also starts under my bra, it's diastasis recti. I've tried the exercises, it makes no difference :(

Itsgottobeme · 04/05/2023 23:58

My friend has this.
She looks great in her light soft slouch jeans.
Often with a sweater or hoodie
Checked shirts and shirt dressed
Longline cardigan
T shirts with an extra lace trim roj d the bottom or something to give extra length
Wrap dresses.
Faux leather jacket mid length.
Wearing softer, silkier t-shirt that are more floaty all the length down
Jumpsuit
Soft cotton Jersey mix dungarees
Long cable knit jumper
Teired maxi

I think you also the hVe to find your confidence ans find what clothes fit that.and believe it.
My friend looks completely different simply I think because it now shines off her lol. She realised this was her and chose clothes accordingly and so she just rocks them. They fit and look it because she believes they fo and looks at last really comfortable

I have similar problems and have found that a top which has a pleat starting under the neck and flaring out gently, helps to disguise my flabby bits fairly well, without making me look bigger than I am.

I have this blouse in a few different colours & prints as I find it so flattering. I hope you can see what I mean about the pleat from this screengrab.

I'd recommend a pleated top too. I have one with a few more pleats which skims over my top half without looking too bulky.

I also lived in my H&M maternity skinny jeans for a good 2 years after pregnancy! So long as I had a long enough top to cover the stretchy bit round my middle, they looked OK.
