Botox Virgin, any horror stories?

I'm considering getting botox on my forehead in between my eyebrows. It's one line that has appeared over the last year or so. I am researching clinics to go to and prices but it occured to me you only ever hear good things about it. I want unbiased reviews!

Has anyone got any horror stories or heard bad things about having it done? I want to make the right decision and don't want to ruin my face.

Likewise if you think it's the best thing since sliced bread, I'm happy to hear it!

Thank you!

Not a horror story but I had it once and it worked really well, then it just stopped working (had it a few more times). Turns out if you have an autoimmune disease (I have a little bit of psoriasis) your body fights it and it gets neutralised. I may try a different therapist who uses a different brand in future but I won't waste any more money experimenting atm.

I had one line, Botox made it vanish and it’s now only just starting to reappear after 8 months so I am booked back in shortly. I have seen friends with some minor forehead bruising which lasted a few days but nothing a bit of makeup wouldn’t cover,

Have been getting Botox in the same line between my eyebrows (that was permanently indented in my head from frowning so much!) since I was about 25 so for 4 years, I get it once a year as it tends to wear off after about 10/11 months. I love it! The line completely disappeared within a week or two of having the Botox once it kicks in and it’s really reduced my headaches / resting b*ch face

Can I ask more about 11 lines…. Didn’t work for mine… in fact made it worse as forehead seemed to fall and compress that skin together! and also I now have hooded eyes lids…. Does it sound like I was given too much? And badly?!

Thank you so much ladies. I've booked in with a clinic and researched them high and low to make sure it's a good choice! I'm super nervous but also excited. I don't want to tell anyone in real life for fear of judgement!

Hmm I do get eczema, I will ask the clinic about that. I didn't realise there were different brands of botox!

This sounds fab!! I get terrible headaches so I wonder if this would help me too, seems too good to be true!

I would go to a different clinic and ask for their advice. The good thing is botox isn't permanent so you should find it goes back to normal in a few months from having it done.

I’ve been getting it for around 2 years. No horror stories and I notice a huge difference. I am really glad I started getting it.

wink1970 · 05/05/2023 09:44

I have only had it once and it just didn't work, I had a massive headache for about a week. Apparently this happens and it might work next time.

I would recommend Profhilo, if you have an interest in that - I'm 52 and it's made a difference to my face structure; not in a 'filler' way, just slightly plumper, less jowly, and dewy.

I'm in my mid thirties so not looking for fillers just yet, but really hope I don't have a bad head after like you did. I wonder if it was a bad reaction to the botox, I guess there's no patch test option 🤔

So interesting to hear it didn't work for some, and I'm fascinated by your point @Franticbutterfly - I'd never heard this about autoimmune conditions. I recently had botox for my crow's feet for the first time...I was adamant to the (excellent and highly recommended) that I wanted a VERY light touch. I could 'feel' a difference after a few days, and things looked nicely smoothed out...however, after a week, everything seemed to go back to normal.

I went back for a two week review and she said 'yes, you definitely need a top up' and added some more. This time I couldn't feel the same slight heaviness or see much smoothing. I think perhaps there is a TINY difference when my face is resting but it's certainly not huge.

Not sure whether to be disappointed or happy that any difference is so subtle! I don't have a diagnosed autoimmune condition (yet) but medical tests showed some markers - plus I have eczema. Would love to hear more about other people's experiences.

ivorkittykat · 05/05/2023 11:35

should have said - excellent and highly recommended 'doctor'. One thing I would say, just as general advice - personally I think it's much, much safer to go to someone medically qualified, rather than a beautician...

readingismycardio · 05/05/2023 20:23

I recently got it for the third time. Works a charm, no one knows what you had done, you just look fresh and well rested. Amazing! Well spent money! Also, not painful at all and it takes 1 minute!

growgrowinggrown · 05/05/2023 20:59

Tagged along with my friend when she went to the top rated doctor in our city.

Months long waiting list, does all the 'celebs' etc and has amazing portfolio of work and medical training.

He was so knowledgable and professional, really light hand and spent an age talking through everything as he went.

4 days later her eyelid completely drooped, like a stroke. She couldn't really see clearly it hung that low.

DR was gutted, apparently it can happen and there really isn't anything you can do until it wears off.

Luckily it beagn to wear off within 4 months, withing the year it was back to normal.

Isabelle70 · 06/05/2023 07:38

I have been having it for about 6 years now and started with 11's, crows feet and forehead. I now only have 11 and crows feet as I felt with age my eyes were getting more hooded and the forehead Botox exacerbated that on my eyes.
I am off for my free 2 week check up this morning.
Also may get a bit more filler to smooth out my under eye hollows I have had 1ml but it's not so smooth on one side where I prefer to sleep as a side sleeper!

EatTheDamnCake · 06/05/2023 07:47

I've had it on my forehead. I think she had to do two or three areas, but can't exactly remember. It did make the lines on my forehead go away. But....it wasn't worth the money for me. Lines on my face aren't worth paying that much to get rid of. I'd rather save the money and have a tummy tuck. I just found that the difference it made was very minimal and I suppose that any major difference would look weird, so I'm not sure I see the point (for me).

I also was paranoid about side effects like eyelid droop so the whole thing wasn't that enjoyable. My sister has it fairly regularly and she also has her lips done. I don't personally think she looks any better for it, but it's what she likes. I tend to think some of this whole trend is just marketing / emperor's new clothes type scenario but I know many people would vehemently disagree with that.

shakeitoffsis · 06/05/2023 07:48

I had it on my forehead and 11's for the first time 2 weeks ago and I'm thrilled with the results. I haven't told a soul that Iv had it done. I had some bruising but I bruise very easily as I'm anaemic. I'm 33 and wanted to start preventatively. My husband would go crazy if he knew 😂

Seriouslynotseriously · 06/05/2023 07:55

Just that it didn’t work for me. Nor did the thing they give to people for whom Botox does not work! Practitioner said I have natural anti-bodies to the active compound. There was one more type of muscle freezing thing they could try but that was £800 just for her to buy, and then obvs her charge on too so I could not afford it.

You have thought she was telling me I had terminal cancer when she let me know.. she looked absolutely devastated for me. Grin

Seriouslynotseriously · 06/05/2023 08:01

Just an additional thought, I do think that perhaps, as you get older, faces of regular Botox practitioners do not age evenly. It starts to become noticeable and look not quite right.

I also noticed that of the two 40 plus keen Botox fans I know, they have a lot of lines under their eyes, like abnormally a lot. I don’t know if that is related or coincidence.
