Is this wedding guest dress suitable?

I am going to a wedding soon and need a dress. Invitation says smart/formal which seems to mean something different according to every website. Day wedding this month and not in a church. I am breastfeeding so need a dress that allows access and also isn’t too unforgiving on my post baby figure.

Would you wear this dress? Is it too much shoulder/too green/too informal? Do you have a better suggestion on a tight budget if you don’t like it or think it unsuitable. Am I hugely overthinking this?

Thank you

How odd to actually write smart/formal on an invite. Surely people dress up and make an effort?!

that dress looks lovely!

ViscountessBridgerton · 01/05/2023 08:43

I think it looks nice 🙂

It’s a beautiful dress! Sounds perfect for the occasion.

SausageRoll2020 · 01/05/2023 08:45

It looks like it might be made from a jersey fabric which would be too informal.
I think it's more of a holiday dress than one to wear to a wedding.

SoupDragon · 01/05/2023 08:47

Have you tried it on? I'd be concerned that the neckline wouldn't adequately contain breastfeeding breasts!

apart from that, I think it it's a lovely dress and fine for a non-church wedding.

SoupDragon · 01/05/2023 08:48

I don't think there's anything wrong with jersey at all. It's not "leisure wear jersey" (if it is jersey)

It's actually incredibly good manners to make the dress code really clear. Very thoughtful of the bride and groom.

Thank you for opinions so far and more are very welcome!

I have tried it on. It’s a bit stretchy so I can get boob out fairly discreetly and will take a cover as well.

I think it is a jersey fabric so I suppose could be considered a holiday dress. It is stretchy and comfy if that’s what jersey is.

I think with the dress code it’s helpful but formal means different things to different people and I don’t want to hassle the bride when she has plenty to think about.

I love it. Where’s it from? I wore a very similar turquoise jersey dress to a wedding when dd was three week’s old, and it worked well. Got lots of compliments.

Campervangirl · 01/05/2023 09:31

Perfect is my vote, you could add some gold accessories, earrings statement necklace, bangle, id also wear pretty/jewelled flipflop style sandals, very Grecian as is the dress.
I hate heels with a long dress

zurala · 01/05/2023 10:02

I think it's perfect given you've got a small baby. I wore something similar but knee length to a very smart wedding in Italy when my youngest was 7 weeks old.

Where is it from? I fancy getting one myself.

CurlewKate · 01/05/2023 10:05

I think it's lovely-but IMHO needs a jacket of some sort to be smart/formal and you need to be careful with shoes.

Lolloped · 01/05/2023 13:40

Thanks for the opinions everyone. I generally dress very casual with uniforms for work so am a bit rubbish at getting dressed up

@zurala @VenusClapTrap It’s originally from Seraphine but I got mine second hand from Vinted. https://www.seraphine.com/en-us/emerald-sleeveless-maxi-knot-dress/
