Waterproof trainers

I’m looking for recommendations for trainers that are waterproof. All I seem to be able to find are walking shoes or trail running trainers. Are these comfortable for everyday use? Or is there a whole category of trainer that I’m missing?

I live fairly centrally in a city and walk everywhere I need to go, often a few miles across the city. I’m on maternity leave and out everyday. The rain doesn’t bother me but I’m so sick and tired of having wet socks and soggy feet. Hopefully summer is round the corner but I’m off until the end of the year so I’ll need something then anyway. I’ve taken to wearing my walking boots a few times when I’ve had further to go but they’re overkill for city walking.

I don't think you are missing anything 😀. I live in London and walk and do loads outside, both on streets but also parks, woods, etc. And get terribly cold feet.

I wear:

Allbirds mizzles - this sort of thing: https://www.allbirds.co.uk/products/womens-wool-runner-mizzles-natural-black
Water-repellent not waterproof but fine for drizzle, very comfy and warm. I do an outdoor sport and they have seen me through the very cold spells. I got mine new from ebay, half price.

Skechers waterproof trainers https://www.amazon.co.uk/Skechers-Womens-Walk-Outdoor-Sneaker/dp/B08QJNSZCT?th=1
Not waterproof like walking boots but great for wet city walking, woods, fields etc. Not sure they are doing quite these any more, I got mine from Sportsshoes.com.

Decathlon trail running shoes, currently reduced

I run in these in most weathers and they keep the worst off tho won't withstand actual immersion. I also find them very comfy for walking long distances, if doing a mixture of park, woods and city streets say

Finally, I found wearing merino-rich wool socks (also from Decathlon but in the winter months) made a big difference to keeping the worst of the wet out and also keeping my feet warm so a bit of damp mattered less.

Nike do Gore Tex trainers such I believe are pretty waterproof

TokyoSushi · 30/04/2023 23:30

Otherwise trail running trainers might be better

NightOwlNotEarlyBird · 01/05/2023 01:51

You could try waterproof socks?

givemecoffeenow · 01/05/2023 03:28

Just spray any pair with water proof spray

potatosalad1 · 02/05/2023 14:03

Some that I've found that might be suitable:

Ecco do various pairs

So do Clarks

This Vans pair:

Some of the Adidas Terrex ones are quite nice even if they are billed as trail runners.

Some Mizuno ones are pretty nice too

Hoka do some waterproof ones
They are so bouncy - like waking on clouds!

@swissrollisntswiss I'm in the same boat - fed up with trainers that aren't even light drizzle proof (Sketchers I'm looking at you). Do you mind me asking what you got in the end - the nicest ones on this thread to me are the Mizzles but warmth isn't a major factor for me in the summer.

bingohandjob · 29/07/2023 15:18

Geox, Ecco and Teva are worth a look.

Oceanus · 29/07/2023 23:48

Anything from any brand with goretex (it'll be written on the side and it's makes it waterproof). Salomon are good, comfortable too which is what I have.

Cherryana · 30/07/2023 00:16

I have some waterproof ‘on cloud’ trainers which are very comfortable.

I also have some Hoka trainers and agree with a pp poster that they are really like walking on a cloud.

Horse brand but I've just had these through on an email
