I think it works. It's v cool. If worn with heels and some big flash earrings.

It’s not black tie, however cool it might be.

RosesAndHellebores · 29/04/2023 14:07

Urbanbuddhas last one could do it. Not floor length, not too evening gowny. I do similar events with DH and there are very few long dresses. Bombshell are good for curves. You need a bit of structure.

For something dressed up with friends I think your Monsoon dress is lovely.

That's really not a very nice dress.

Just what I was thinking!

Do you know what? I'd wear it to the do. It is a totally gorgeous unusual dress! You will be the best dressed there.

Black tie is the mens dress code, and these days the women's dress code is more fluid.

Totally agree. I once wore a short tight dress to a black tie do when everyone else was dressed as a Disney Princess (early 90s).

I bet the conversations about you in the Ladies were interesting.

wincarwoo · 30/04/2023 13:52

@Blossomtoes is that meant to bother me? I very much doubt I was a topic of conversation and even if I was 🤷🏼‍♀️

JenWillsiam · 30/04/2023 14:13

Definitely not.

littleripper · 30/04/2023 14:17

I think that is an everywhere anywhere dress! I love it

littleripper · 30/04/2023 14:19

I wear this RioFarm one constantly, and it always gets compliments:

I have literally never heard anyone making disparaging remarks about someone else's dress at any kind of do. Do people really care that much what others wear?

Admittedly I haven't been to a black tie do in quite a while but floor length dresses were very unusual. Recent ones I've seen pictures of (think industry awards do), some women were in trousers.

If it’s black tie

This?

or this

or this?

I love your second This, it's formal enough but also a bit quirky and fun.

Yes, you can definitely wear it to a cocktail type party! When selecting your dress for the occasion, consider the following tips to ensure it's appropriate and stylish for the event:

  1. Dress code: Check the invitation or event details for any specific dress code requirements. For a cocktail party, semi-formal attire is usually expected. A below-knee dress with a tasteful floral and bird print can be a great choice if it's not too casual in style.
  2. Fabric and cut: Make sure the fabric and cut of your dress are suitable for a cocktail party. Opt for a dress that has a sophisticated silhouette and is made from a high-quality fabric. This will help elevate the look and make it more appropriate for the occasion.
  3. Accessories: Pair your dress with elegant accessories to complete the look. Consider wearing heels, statement jewelry, and a clutch that complements the colors and patterns of your dress.
  4. Makeup and hairstyle: Opt for a polished makeup look and hairstyle that matches the sophistication of your dress and the cocktail party setting.
As long as your floral and bird below knee dress in blue is semi-formal and elegant in style, it should be a lovely choice for a cocktail party. Have fun and enjoy the event!
Viviennemary · 30/04/2023 15:07

No. Its not a very nice dress. But too casual for a cocktail party. Dont know what it would be suitable for.

WeaselKingHenry · 30/04/2023 15:15

Nope!

bunnybunnybunnybunny · 30/04/2023 18:32

Cocktail party in Ibiza, Marbella, The Maldives, Bora Bora etc, yes, you could definitely get away with that. Anywhere else, no. It's just not refined enough.

Yes, people do care and they comment - and not just the women. We go to four or five black tie events every year. Evening trousers are fine but most people still wear floor length dresses.

wincarwoo · 30/04/2023 23:19

@Blossomtoes I think it's sad that you care so much what others think of what you wear and that you care so much about others. It's fine not to conform.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone openly make disparaging remarks about what someone was wearing at this sort of event. I've given and received many compliments but these are occasions when "if you can't think of anything nice to say don't say anything" really is a sound rule.

It makes no difference to you or your enjoyment of the event. If you're confident your choice of dress was right why on earth do you need to belittle someone else?
